Meet Carl Alleyne of Boston Mobile Dance Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carl Alleyne.

Carl, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been performing and coaching in and out of the entertainment industry for almost 30 years. I’ve acted in movies like “Anna Ferris and Chris Evans. I’ve done back up dancing for artists such as Sir Elton John and Neill Young. I’ve choreographed for a movie with Brooke Shields and Brendan Fraser called “Furry Vengeance”. I’ve toured as a vocalist with bands.

In 2012, I formed Boston Mobile Dance Studio. I wanted to make social dancing more accessible to everyday people all over the Greater Boston area and beyond. We teach everyday people confidence, teamwork, and self-awareness though social dancing. We have classes throughout the Greater Boston area. Our tagline is “Move Creatively” as we realize that dance is a great cross training for life.

Has it been a smooth road?
It wasn’t smooth for us. I did not want to take out a loan or become a non-profit organization although I knew both ways were very beneficial. I did not because I still perform as a recording artist, actor and model. I knew it would have been too much admin for me, and I wanted to do other things that was more meaningful to me, like helping create an off Broadway show called “Vaudeville Funk”, Continuing to develop our “move creatively’ philosophy, etc. It took longer for BMDS to build, and it’s still a struggle, however, I love the direction we’ve gone.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
BMDS is New England’s mobile dance studio. We bring the dance to you and make it more accessible. Our goal is to provide dance classes in major cities and towns in Massachusetts from Boston, to Cambridge to the Berkshires. We specialize in making social dance accessible to individuals and organizations. We work with everyday people. From teachers, to scientists to actors and the list goes on. I am proud of our coaches and most of all our students who flourish and use dance as a cross training for life. BMDS is a platform for them to be more confident, free to express, emboldened to contribute to their community!

What sets us apart is that we are mobile, we focus on social dancing and movement.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like our city is great for business like ours. We are free to express so much in Massachusetts. When we are free to express respectfully, we evolve and break ceilings and other physiological barriers.

I would definitely have them start with BMDS. Actually many of our adult students have been students with us for over a decade. Some of them perform with our professional group the Beantown Lockers. Some have moved on to professional dance companies, performed for major artists and movies. Some have excelled in the corporate world, and in their own professions.
