Meet Caitlin Isbister of Pet Acupuncture Works

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Isbister.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Caitlin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I adore animals. I pretty much want to hug every cat and dog that I meet.

After I graduated from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (Chicago) in 2008, I moved to Somerville and have treated humans with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine since. Currently, my human practice is located at Kate Ruma & Associates Acupuncture in Arlington Center.

I love spending time with animals. This is the main reason I began my in-home acupuncture business for dogs and cats, Pet Acupuncture Works, in 2015. I travel to pet client’s homes in Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Medford, Lexington, Newton and more.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Usually cats and dogs can sit with the needles for ten to thirty minutes, but occasionally it can be a challenge to get the animal to sit still during the treatment. I have the owner stay close to their pet during the session, and this usually calms them (along with the acupuncture and sometimes massage). Pets are even known to fall asleep during the treatment!

Pet Acupuncture Works – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Pet Acupuncture Works is an in-home acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine service for dogs and cats in the Greater Boston Area. I am known for my love of animals and for my dedication to improving the health of my clients’ pets. I treat various pain disorders but I also use Chinese medicine to improve fatigue, low appetite, digestive and urinary disorders, chemotherapy side effects, and skin issues.

I enjoy being able to treat a family’s pet in the comfort of their own home. It is easier for the animal to relax in its own environment during the treatment.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’m proudest when animals begin to show improvement in their health issues with acupuncture (such as less limping or stiffness, increased appetite, a boost in energy, or lessening of digestive issues).
