Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Fuller.
A consummate athlete, Bryan has been competing in one sport or another since grade school. In his youth, he threw the discus and wrestled competitively, learning that both sports leaned heavily on form, strength, and balance.
He graduated with a degree in politics from UMass Amherst and then spent five years in the Army as a counterintelligence agent with training in interrogation. So, if you are late to class, it’s best to be honest about it. During his career in the US Army, he taught group exercises in a boot camp fashion, pushing his fellow soldiers to enhance their unit’s overall fitness.
After the military, he obtained his MBA from Boston University and later his CPA.
He began rowing in 2011, joining a new Veteran outreach team at Community Rowing, Inc. in Brighton. In 2012, he promoted the program by rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean in 34 days, 15 hours, and 39 minutes aboard an 8-man rowboat, the Titan. He became the fastest American to row across the Atlantic. Feel free to ask him about his time at sea or read about it in his upcoming book, ‘Rowing the Atlantic Ocean, a Love Story’.
Rowing changed his life. At Power Rowing, he teaches proper form and technique on the rowing machine, “erg”. His classes are patterned towards high intensity with interval pauses for recovery before returning to high intensity. All classes are taught using the vernacular that coaches would use on the water for crew teams.
His classes emphasize muscular and cardiovascular development in a low impact environment. Be forewarned: passionate members will be encouraged to get on the water!
Has it been a smooth road?
Opening the studio has been smooth sailing, with the exception of a few holdups due to construction, neighborhood restrictions and the small details that arise with every new business. Luckily, this being Bryan’s passion product has been all of the work worthwhile.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Power Rowing story. Tell us more about the business.
Power Rowing is a fitness studio that uses rowing machines or ergs, to help people to achieve their fitness goals. Bryan specializes in low impact exercises that produce high impact results. All of his classes are upbeat and he will personally help anyone through the class. What sets Bryan apart from other trainers is that he is quite literally the best in his field. Bryan is the fastest American to row across the Atlantic Ocean. He has been rowing for years and knows how to exercise safely and produce results.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Bryan says that rowing will play a big part in the future of exercising. Low impact exercise is healthy for all ages. He plans on opening more locations in the next few years!
