Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Barthelemy.
Brenda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Brookvale Pines Farm is committed to family and community. We are currently the 5th generation to be working this family farm. My great-grandparents, Grandparents, parents Phillip and Virginia Peterson, Brenda and Scott Barthelemy ) sons Lester and Lance and now granddaughter Lenya. We have the belief that animals and land should be connected in the way nature intended. We believe having a connection to the food you eat and knowing how it was raised helps us make healthier food choices. We believe buying your food local, directly from the farm is the best way to know how it is raised. Great Grandfather Henry Cole bought 30 acres from an Uncle in 1915 and eventually purchased the abutting property after a brick yard went out of business and now the farm consists of 300 Acers here in Southern New Hampshire.
We are proud to host 30+ horse shows here every year including the New Hampshire High School Equestrian teams events in addition to the Eastland Woodland Pow Wow, 4 H and Pony Club events and every fall a hugely attended New Hampshire Snowmobile club’s Grass Drags over Columbus Day Week End. Monthly we offer classes in all types of healthy eating/living topics from food preparation of our grass-fed products, to essential Oil use, and other health topics.
On the same property as the farm, we have offered THE TACK SHACK horse blanket cleaning, repair, and waterproofing service for over 25 Years. We personally raise grass-fed beef, pork, and chicken, sell, eggs, and Raw milk and cream and sell that and other local products at the farm store.
Our revolutionary “Chicken Bus” was featured on Boston TV and local newspapers. It’s the invention thought of to host chickens and their nests and to most them to various parts of the farm to continually fertilize the pastures you can see the video on our website www.brookvalepinesfarm.com
We are proud of what we do here!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Farming is never a smooth road with the obvious struggles of money, weather and help!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Brookvale Pines Farm/Tack Shack – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in offeringPasture-Based beef, eggs, piork chicken and raw milk.
A few months ago we made this “Chicken Bus” an old school bus that we removed all the seats and installed 2 rows on each side of the inside of the bus for nests for the chicken to lay eggs. The back door is a ramp to allow the chicken to get off and on the bus because we allow them to roam during the day. The development of this bus is to enable our workers to move the bus from pasture to pasture for the natural fertilizing and parasite control.
Local newspapers and Boston TV station did stories on the new addition to the farm!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We hope to continue with our family farming with the generations to follow and open a larger retail farm store.
