Meet Gianna Moran of Botanical Brow Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gianna Moran.

Gianna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
For the past five years, I have been working part-time and attending college classes while raising my son. In 2018, I received a Degree in Health Science, and while vigorously applying to nursing programs, I decided to quit my stressful job. This was one of my toughest times in my life, and I was so stressed out and confused as to my future. Unexpectedly an opportunity arose, and I jumped on the chance to better myself and my family. In the past, I had always done brow shaping as a side job out of my home, but although I was ambitious and had several clients, my business basically was word of mouth. I never promoted it since I did not feel comfortable having strangers in my home. One of my close friends who owns Twisted Elegance Hair Spa, a thriving salon on the North Shore, knew my situation and without hesitation offered to rent me one of the extra rooms on the second floor. The space was amazing – an old converted mansion located on a lake with the most serene views. She was not only a real life angel, but I was honored that she had the confidence in me and my skills. Needless to say, a year later and my business is flourishing. The energy is always light and peaceful, and I go into work every day and absolutely love what I do and enjoy the different clientele. I not only provide an amazing service of flawless brows, but my clients are comforted knowing that I use no chemicals or toxins. I have perfected the combination of natural plant and mineral based products that work incredibly well, and my clients are pleased with the results. I have always been an advocate for chemical free products, and have always had a holistic health and wellness approach to life, and this is how Botanical Brow Bar was created.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It is so true that nothing worth having ever comes easy, and a little blood, sweat and tears never hurt anyone! My journey has definitely been a challenge, but with the amazing support of my family, as well as my dedication and work ethic, I have been able to conquer so many obstacles, and I am now a much stronger person. As a Freshman, I was forced to leave my public high school and attended a technical vocational school. Although I was not happy at the time, this was the best decision and this is where I initially started my career as I graduated with a license in cosmetology. I never enjoyed cutting or coloring hair, but instead always gravitated towards creative styling which consisted of brow shaping, blow dries, wedding/prom updos and makeup. Even before I was licensed, I was performing blow out and eyebrow services to my classmates and teachers. I had just turned 17, and I was the first in the class to pass my boards. After working with CHANEL cosmetics for a few years, I realized that my passion was in brow design and skincare. I was interested in pursuing a career as a cosmetic dermatologist and enrolled in college courses to start my journey. When I got pregnant at 21, I stopped attending college courses and instead enrolled into Catherine Hinds School of Esthetics program. Since I was going to be a single mother, I was determined to finish before my son was born. I was on a mission, and I worked full time while attending classes. After completing the required 600 hour program, my son was born, and a new even more challenging chapter of my life began. Thanks to my youth, I was able to keep up with an even more strenuous schedule working 3 nights a week bartending in Boston, brow waxing during the day, and taking college classes part-time. With some help from my family, I was managing this busy schedule and taking care of my son when I had a huge set back. Coming home from work one night I was struck by a drunk driver, and my car, along with two other ones, was totaled. Life was temporarily put on hold for approximately a year until I was fully healed from my injuries. I stayed positive throughout this whole ordeal, and when I finished my rehab, I continued with my previous strenuous schedule. After overcoming so many obstacles, it took me five long, exhausting years to finally get my Degree in Health Science. I have applied to several nursing programs, and I am proud to say that I have been accepted into a fantastic part-time program that works perfectly with my current work schedule at Botanical Brow Bar and my son’s full-time kindergarten class. While I was waiting for acceptance into a nursing program, I continued to explore other opportunities to further my education. I have now completed a Certified Holistic Nutritionist course, and in September, I will be working towards certification in reiki/shoden. No matter what curveballs life throws me, I am always trying to better myself. I am elated that I will be able to continue working at Botanical Brow Bar while being a part-time nursing student. Once again, this is only the beginning to another long journey, and I look forward to this new chapter of my life. I now it will not be easy, but I am up for the challenge.

Please tell us about Botanical Brow Bar.
Botanical Brow Bar is a little hide away oasis in a Mansion on the North Shore. You will experience exquisite views, while relaxing in a private room which is warm with natural lighting and beautiful chandeliers. The bed is incredibly comfortable and often clients are lulled to sleep to the sounds of meditation music or chakra balancing singing bowl recordings. My services specialize in Organic Henna Tinting and Brow Design/Shaping. Not only is the Henna tint organic, but it is all plant and mineral based which uses no chemicals. It is also safe for pregnancy too! The Henna lasts approximately two and half weeks on the skin, and up to three and half weeks on the hair shaft. When receiving a wax, you are prepped with a lavender witch hazel or rose water, and the wax is all natural which is also excellent for sensitive skin. This is followed by an application of fresh aloe vera and lavender essential oil. My clients are extremely pleased because they leave relaxed with perfect brows with no redness or irritations. I only promote and use products that I truly believe are the best, and I personally use them myself. I am passionate about providing my clients not only with excellent service, but an overall amazing experience. I am very personable and enjoy meeting new people. I am not only professional, but I am respectful of others and always listen to their requests or concerns. What sets this apart from other places would have to be the location, friendly employees and exceptional service. While clients are waiting for their appointment, they are able to sit on the back deck, on a cozy couch surrounded by tropical plants, Zen statues, and a magnificent view of the lake. Also available to my clients is services and products at Twisted Elegance Hair Spa downstairs. They offer Oribe hair products, Joah Brown yoga line, and hair extensions with the latest trends of hair coloring. You can also book your own “goddess” night hosted by Alisha inside of the breathtaking Goddess Room, where you and your friends will never want to leave. I highly recommend my clients to check it out!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
