Today we’d like to introduce you to Bonny Lamb.
Bonny, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Most of my work experience has been in writing and marketing–working in an ad agency; financial marketing company; marketing department in a real estate development company–then doing an impractical about-face and opening an art business, for which I was educated, but at a bad time in the economy. However, I am a firm believer that every job/every experience has its value. When I knew my art business wouldn’t fly, I chose real estate because I could be independent; my writing and marketing background would be beneficial; and I had sales experience.
The history and the beautiful architecture throughout Cambridge made it an easy decision. I joined a neighborly firm, which twice sold to larger companies, the second one, Coldwell Banker. I left CB to join Hammond, a prestigious Greater Boston firm. When Hammond was sold in July 2016, a core group of us from the Cambridge office joined Compass, and Compass opened a fab new office for us in Harvard Square. Those of us who had worked together at Hammond were glad we could be together, and those agents who have joined since are a wonderful fit. It’s a fun environment, very familial, and I enjoy watching Cantabrigians, some quite unique, walk by our big windows. My clients are a fascinating group, composed of Nobel and MacArthur recipients, well-known academics and scientists, and enthusiastic newlyweds, searching for their first home. I feel very privileged and I am never bored.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I am an upbeat person and convinced that I can do anything by putting effort into it. I work hard; am very conscientious; exceedingly ethical; a perfectionist. A frustration is encountering/knowing about agents with standards that give the rest of us a bad name.
Compass – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My tag line is “A real estate expert you can trust.” My clients trust me; I commit to them that I would never put my interests before theirs. Having been in the business for almost 30 years, I have the experience, good judgment, market knowledge and trend history to be valuable to them and they know it and appreciate it. Last summer at a brokers’ open house, a few agents from a large brokerage told me that I was one of the subjects of their weekly meeting–not sure what the genesis of the conversation was. They told me they had all agreed that I was professional, pleasant to work with, and played fair. Hearing this from one’s competitors was a high honor.
What’s your favorite memory from childhood?
I was a tomboy; I could run faster than any boy. And I loved to read. Walking to the library every week and choosing books to bring home was a wonderful excursion for me. When I was 9, I was permitted in the adult section of the library because I had read just about everything in the children’s section. At 9 it was also when I got hooked on mysteries–not Nancy Drew, but Erle Stanley Gardner and other serious writers. I love to read and treat myself to a mystery in between books on history and politics.
