Today we’d like to introduce you to Bill Cratty.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Bill. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In my mid-30’s, after spending many years in Public Accounting and working at State Street, I found an opportunity to open a financial advisory practice in 1999, something I wanted to do 10 years earlier. I had never truly been my own boss until then. My wife and I had three young boys at the time – ages four, two and an infant. Trying to support my family and launch a new career came with some challenges, but I figured it was now or never if I truly wanted to run my own business.
I built my practice on my natural market — friends, family, and colleagues — and a willingness to talk to anyone, I mean anyone, about their finances and how I could help them. In 2014, I started with Ameriprise and the PAR Advisory Group, and I am as well positioned as I have ever been to help people meet their financial goals.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
While I have been very fortunate over the years, there have been challenges. Early in the development of my business, there were slow growth periods which created some pressure and stress.
As a financial advisor, one of the most rewarding and challenging parts of my job is guiding clients through the good times and bad. It’s during the downturns, or bear markets, where the job can feel challenging, but these are the times when clients really appreciate the plans we’ve put in place to address market risk and uncertainty. I have found these moments to be the most affirming in my career.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about PAR Advisory Group – a financial advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. – what should we know?
PAR Advisory Group focuses on goal tracking for our clients, as well as managing their investments. Everything we do is centered on helping our clients achieve their goals and reduce anxiety in their financial lives.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Without the support of my wife Sue my business would never have gotten off the ground, and once off the ground it would have never survived the stressful slow growth phases I went through during the development of my practice.
