Meet Lynn Umina of Bievo in Concord

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynn Umina.

Lynn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Bievo is an on-line family organizer that was born out of necessity. As a busy mom trying to manage our family schedules and calendars I found myself having to cobble together different pieces from several products to create a centralized calendar that worked. I realized that many of our friends and family members were experiencing the same frustration trying to organize work, school, activities and every other daily task that needed to get done. My husband, TJ, and I decided to create Bievo (pronounced: bee-voh) a family organizer app that would work with real life.

With my background in customer service and my husband’s experience as a CIO and former software developer we focused on creating a safe and secure family organizer that could grow with our family. Data security and product flexibility were priorities in our development. Knowing that our children would eventually be managing their own calendar, chore list and using the other functions within the app we decided not to sell advertising. There are no distracting ads. Keeping the whole family on-track and organized with one app was our goal.

Over the years Bievo has evolved into the product we have today with priceless feedback from customers telling us which features they want and need to manage family life. We have created a multi-faceted organizer that will work for any family structure including Blended Families, Co-parents & Caregivers. Bievo was created by our family for your family.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t think anyone starting a small business believes that it will be without some huge learning curves, but the most difficult areas may be completely unexpected. I undoubtedly thought that once we developed a great product and filled a need in our space that hardest work was done. I was most surprised by how daunting it is to get product traction. I vastly underestimated the time, energy and creativity this would take. I realized that creating a product and finding our niche was just the beginning of the journey. Business ownership has been a lesson in balancing patience and persistence. Believing in Bievo, reassessing expectations and having a strong resolve has kept me motivated.

The decision to not collect revenue from advertising remains a challenge, but a safe environment and data protection has always been and remains paramount. In addition, a subscription to Bievo Basic is free of charge which challenges us to maintain a quality product to retain our Bievo Premium customer base.

Working seamlessly on one platform between your Desktop and Mobile devices, Bievo has everything a busy family needs to stay organized. Features include: Calendars, Shopping Lists, Task Lists, Contacts, Family Medical Information, Family Circles, Co-parent & Caregiver Access and On-line Calendar Import & Automated Synchronization.

-Calendars allows for an individual to customize views by personal or family events. Easily parse out what you need to see. You can view your work calendar separate from the family calendar, for instance.

-Shopping Lists can be accessed by all family members on any device. Notifications can be sent to your family letting them know which store and when you plan to shop, so items can be added before you go.

-Task Lists create To-Do & Chore Lists as one time or recurring events with notification and/or reminders when a task is due.

-Contacts allow for a central location for all important family contacts. Manage personal and group imported contacts all in one place.

-Family Medical Information can be securely stored. Reminders can be set so medication is taken when needed and/or notifications can be sent when medication is taken.

-Family Circles allows sharing birthdays, anniversaries and selected events to a larger group. Create a circle with your parents and siblings and another with your in-laws. A perfect way to share events with grandparents and siblings.

-Co-parent & Caregiver gives access to someone to participate in a family members account. For instance, Co-parent can allow a non-custodial parent to contribute to a child’s schedule without access to anyone else in your family. Likewise, a Caregiver can have limited access to an account including shopping lists. Great for letting the Nanny manage events in your child’s calendar without access to the whole family or for siblings sharing the responsibility of caring for an elderly parent.

-On-line Calendar Import and Automated Synchronization No need to re-enter events. Easily import on-line calendars from your kid’s sports, school or other activities. Our system will automatically update your Bievo calendar if changes occur and send you a change notification. Perfect for keeping game time changes up to date.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I wouldn’t say we have any big changes planned. We are constantly assessing customer needs and adding & improving functionality. Bievo currently has users in 35 different countries and we will continue to focus on expanding our customer base. The Family Circles feature was recently added and we are exploring other partnerships and feature options that will benefit our users. We look forward to our continued growth and are excited for the future.
