Meet Benjamin Stebbings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjamin Stebbings.

Benjamin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My mother is an artist, this is what sparked my initial interest in the art world. I continued on to study at the urgency to the Boston, it is semester abroad in Orvieto, Italy studying renaissance art and graduating from Montserrat. Over the years, I’ve used that as many different mediums as possible but graduated with a degree in fine arts in a concentration in painting.

These days, I’m working Gallery work, murals, installations, and commercial art.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say choosing to be an artist is never without its struggles but it is a unique lifestyle. I love to be able to create a sketch, turn it into a painting and if I want to, blow it up and turn it into a mural. Every medium lends itself to another. In other words, an idea developed doing watercolors may be used with spray paint as well.

Please tell us more about your artwork, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am showing a few times a year, whether it be group shows or a solo show. I love working with the figure and my work is known for its expressive quality. I like to show glimpses of the process while keeping some parts more polished. If you can capture the essence of something with one stroke or mark, without over-explaining it Sometimes, it’s more interesting. It took me a long time to get to that point. Art is something you can always improve on.

Some recent accomplishments I am most proud of include- my work with Far From The Tree Cider Company, doing their seasonal can art. As well as their tap room murals. Also, my current figurative work that concentrates on color, mark making, and decorative contemporary portraiture.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Proud moments would be selling out a recent series of oil paintings.
Being asked to do live art at the Peabody Essex Museum
Print collaboration with House Of Roulx.
Working with Woodman Shimko Gallery in Provincetown.

Musician inspired mural commissions at The Verb Hotel.
