Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Rodriguez.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
From a young age, I was drawn to the art of beauty. It didn’t help that my mom was the ultimate pageant queen and model that I wanted to emulate so badly! My first passion or so I thought was modeling and I tried to pursue it but didn’t work out for me and it was disappointment after disappointment in that ‘world of beauty’. So I asked myself how can I stay in the realms of beauty? Fortunately for me, I was offered a position as a freelance artist at Lancome Cosmetics. That is how I started my makeup career at the age of 18 which lead me to work for other companies such as Sephora, and ultimately the grand opportunity at MAC Cosmetics. I thought to myself, This is it!
Working for MAC will raise the bar for me. I’ll move to New York and be this celebrity makeup artist that I fantasize about”… That plan didn’t quite work out how I envisioned it. I made decisions in my life that changed me drastically and taught me hard lessons, of which I do not regret, even to this day! I thought I was in love and then had a beautiful baby girl. I became a mom and then questioned, “How can I fit my career in, and have a family?” I convinced myself that I control my own destiny and I’d make it work on my own terms, AKA excludes God out all of this. Welp, that didn’t work either. I went through so much heartbreak, but in a nutshell, those failures and disappointments shaped Barbara Lissette Rodriguez.
I came to a pivotal point in my life that I could not exclude God from my life or my career and he is the overseer and CEO of my business. He has put us on this earth to serve and be an ambassador for him to bring the wounded and hurt people back to him. This world is hurt and he uses our talents and gifts to help, serve and love others. As I have embarked this journey I have discovered that my gift is to encourage, uplift and remind women their worthiness is in the Lord, through my teachings on God’s love, taking care of oneself through my new skincare line and makeup classes. Also reminding them the beauty God gave each and every one of them. My goal is to ultimately teach and remind the Quintessential Woman they were created and destined to be!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The challenges I faced were making decisions that were not God ordained. I was very adamant that my way was the best way or more so my way felt comfortable and familiar.
The struggles that hindered my career at one point was my personal life and how I handle relationships with family, friends and significant other. I allowed relationships to define and defeat me all at the same time. But I can say now I do not regret these experiences at all. It has shifted me and changes my perspective that there was a purpose in all of it and I am not the only one who has gone through this and sole reason of why it happened was and is to share it with my target audience. God always has a way for working out things for your greatest good and I believe that is part of our purpose.
Barbara Rodriguez – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Barbara Rodriguez Co presents professional makeup artistry, a skincare line and beauty education. I have been a professional makeup artist for 12 years now and I am known for my artistry. I specialize in very polished and glam makeup. I am known as well for this positive Barbara who emits amazing energy, especially on social media.
I am most proud of releasing my business decisions to God. I feel ever since I have done that I’ve been in a place of trusting in him and because of this I have made bold decisions. Such as launching a skincare line, incorporating God’s teachings in my makeup classes and declining wedding makeup services eeek! Which is a bigger part of my bread and butter?
The goal is to be a specialty makeup artist for speakers, entrepreneurs, bloggers and models, expanding my skincare line shelving it in stores and launching online makeup classes. What sets me apart is the way I look, I look like this young white American girl who may be quiet soft spoken and if anything I math opposite, I am this fiery Latina who jokes, laughs and has a boatload of energy and constantly extending myself on doing things I have never done before.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Aside from having my daughter my proudest moment is when I made the decision three years ago to pursue entrepreneurship full time. Within those years I have dive deep into expanding my makeup classes and I have created my own skincare line!!! Which I am so proud of. I came up with ingredients and made it all and have had nothing but amazing reviews and feedbacks from paying customers.
