Meet Arne Nordeide of Beverly Flight Center in North Shore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arne Nordeide.

Beverly Flight Center is a flight school that’s been operating at the Beverly Airport for over 30 years. In 1986, Arne and his wife Carol bought the flight school and have been running it as a family business ever since.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It is not always a smooth flight in aviation, there are always some “bumps” along the way. 9/11 was a huge setback with the Beverly Airport shut down for a couple of weeks. There have also been many regulation changes that happened as a result. Many winters can be tough when the New England storms get relentless and when that happens the planes (and students) don’t fly.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We specialize in giving students the knowledge and skills they need to become safe pilots. We teach under both FAA part 61 and part 141 training regulations. We offer training for Private Pilot, Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot, Multi-Engine rating, Flight Instructor and Airline Transport Pilot. We also offer currency training for pilots and airplane rentals. We have a Red Bird LD simulator that is mostly used for instrument training. North Shore Community College has an Aviation Science program and all of their flight training is done at BFC and they offer classes in our classroom.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Norway. I was never very interested in aviation as a child, I had originally wanted to become a school teacher. I became interested in flying while in the Norwegian King’s Guard. I received my private pilot’s license while in Norway and then moved to the US to pursue my flying career.
