Meet Arlene Maserejian of B-Lush Spa in Waltham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arlene Maserejian.

Arlene, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2003 I Graduated from Elizabeth Grady School of Esthetics. I got my 1st job in esthetics at a spa in Brookline, Ma. I worked for about 8 months at this spa and it was ok but I wanted more of a challenge where I can let my creativity out. I got a job in the financial district . It was a salon and spa. I got to do makeup for Betsy Johnson fashion show, Denise Hajjar fashion show for Charity, WAAF Man Town calendar etc. I was at this salon for about 4 years then I moved to another Salon and Spa on Boylston Street in Boston. It was an Aveda Lifestyle Salon. I absolutely fell in love with the products and the clientele that I build. My coworkers became good friends and it was an amazing experience for me. Doing makeup for weddings, special events, facials and help managing day to day task. I really got to experience the ins and outs of a salon . In 2009 I got married and in 2010 I had my 1st child. My husband is self-employed and working in a salon you don’t get great health benefits . So I then left my job to work in the medical field. It was a 9-5 Monday through Friday. I gave my family great health benefits but I left my passion what I loved to do. stayed in the medical field for 6 years I had another child in 2012. I freelanced doing makeup on the side here and there for brides but that wasn’t enough for me it didn’t fulfill my needs. Early 2016 I would stay up all night looking online rooms to rent so I can do esthetics.

My husband also felt the whole that I needed to fill so he was also helping me and supporting me into looking for a space to rent. A few months passed I gave up as I couldn’t come across a good space. Then one early morning before work I came across an ad on Craigslist it looked too good to be true. A retail store front in the heart of Waltham. My husband and I grew up in Waltham. We met after work and looked at the space and we fell in love with it. It all happened soo fast and it was meant to be. We opened our doors Sept 30th,2016 and I finally can go to work loving what I do. I love the beauty industry and what it has to offer. I love making people feel pampered and helping them with their skincare needs. My facials that I provide are not your average typical facial that you get. You will also receive a declote, neck, scalp, lower leg, feet, arm and hand massage. It’s a treatment that you will want again and again ! I love providing it and seeing the end result of my client not only looking very relaxed but the skin glowing.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No NOT AT ALL!! We went through lots of struggles just to open permits etc. Our Grand Opening it was pouring rain out was the worst day for a grand opening a lot of people couldn’t come. Oct and Nov wad a super slow month. Dec and Jan was better . It’s like starting from scratch building clientele daily trying to get the word out. As I don’t have the budget to do these crazy marketing like most spas do all I have is my skills and experience to give to the clients that are coming in and hope for them to spread the word and return.

I’m the owner and I will be servicing you with all my knowledge and experience .

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I come from a family with all entrepreneurs. My mother and brother own a restaurant and my dad owns his mechanic shop. I’ve seen the ups and downs of being an owner and the stress of running a business. My brother tells me the stress of the business and I say why are you still doing it and he says it’s because he loves what he provides to the community and he loves what he does. It’s not easy and my biggest supporter has been my husband without him B-Lush Spa would not be here right now. He has given me all the motivation and drive to start doing what I love. He has helped me with creating the logo, paint colors, menus etc. All the ups and downs he has been supporting me and it has brought us closer together than ever. My family has also been a big support as they say “if you have a passion for something no one can do it better than you so just do it for yourself”
