Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonio Portugal.
Antonio, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Being a small business owner was never one of my aspirations, I have been in the airline industry for almost 30 years and quite content with it. My love affair with Spain’s national dish started during one of my first visits to Spain around 1995, from that point on Paella has been my dish of choice to this day.
Seven years ago while talking to a friend the idea a paella catering came to the conversation and there the concept of Paellas at your place by Antonio came to fruition. So basically I specialize in paellas and tapas, do events all over New England from small intimate house parties to weddings, corporate events, etc.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Just like any other small business, you need to get your name out there, and takes a little investment in advertising, some free food shows but it’s been ok.
Paellas at your place by Antonio – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in authentic paella catering, I do all the cooking, all the preparation, all the purchasing, accounting etc. I think what I must proud is the fact I have clients that book you 5 to 6 times a year to cater their parties. Also that my client base grows every year since 2010.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
When I got my own commercial kitchen, where I store and prepare and sometimes do tastings if clients would like to try my paellas before booking.
