Meet Anthony Schultz of Big T Productions in North Quincy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Schultz.

Anthony, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started a recording studio in my apartment in the Back Bay in Jan. 1989, about 6 months after graduating from Berklee College of Music (Bachelors of Music in Music Production and Engineering). After several years of operating a studio full-time out of the apartment, I moved the business to a 4,000 sq. ft. commercial space on the edge of Chinatown in the Leather District in 1995.

The next 5 years were the most difficult of my entire life. After the 5 year lease was up, I had racked up $100,000 in credit card debt and faced having to move the entire business within a 60 day time-frame.

I moved the business into a smaller space in North Quincy, where the business has been located since 2000. I have been teaching courses in Audio Recording & Technology, Computer Music and Acoustics at The New England Institute of Art for 20 years and Music Production 101 for Berklee Online since Jan. 2016.

I have three consecutive terms as Chair of the Boston Section of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) and currently serving my second term as VP of the Eastern Region of US/Canada. In Oct. 2016, I was also elected to serve as Chair of Regions & Section, overseeing all Student and Pro AES Section Worldwide.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
DEFINITELY NOT!!

Big T Productions – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am not just a recording studio, I am an audio engineer, music producer, songwriter, guitarist, audio educator. I am not just a recording studio. I do a lot of producing, arranging, programming and playing for my client projects.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as doing what you want to do on a full-time basis.
