Meet Anthony Feola of ShotCakes in Burlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Feola.

Anthony, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The company originally started by my father manufacturing eclairs and selling them in grocery stores. He later had the idea for the “Iclair”, an ice cream filled eclair.

After years of development, he invented and patented the world’s first ice cream injecting machine and the Iclair was introduced to supermarket shelves. The company continued in the manufacturing and wholesale baking business, however ice cream filled baked goods were the future.

I had always contributed to the business growing up and took on a full time role after I graduated from college. I felt there was a tremendous opportunity with our new innovation and knew we needed to diversify our business. Our revolutionary ice cream injecting technology needed to be shown to the world so we took it out of a factory setting and displayed it as the centerpiece in our retail business. We called this new creation “ShotCakes” which is all about freshness and simplicity, fresh baked cupcakes filled with creamy soft serve ice cream. We wanted a place where people could have great food and an amazing experience.

Our vision is to create an iconic global brand based on our technology and the ice cream cupcake. Our intention is to franchise the ShotCakes brand and license our ice cream technology. Hopefully, someday everyone on the planet will be able to experience ShotCakes.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been full of challenges, most of all is our custom ice cream injecting machine. Like all pioneers, we are blazing into the unknown. Fabricating custom equipment is costly and labor intensive, we needed to figure out how to simplify producing equipment and making it less expensive so we can expand our system.

We are currently in development of “Smart Door” technology which is a device that can adapt to any soft serve machine, converting any soft serve machine into an ice cream injecting/dispensing machine rather than having
to manufacture a custom machines.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about ShotCakes – what should we know?
What sets us apart is our patented ice cream injecting technology and the products we produce. Our ice cream filled cupcakes are our signature product.
