Meet Anna Harrington of DaytoDayMae in The North End

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Harrington.

Anna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always had an interest in fashion, travel, writing and photography. I love finding images that make you feel something when you look at them whether its excitement, nostalgia, motivation, happiness, sadness, or anything else. That coupled with my interest in marketing (being a marketing major) and working at two different internet marketing companies, HubSpot and Criteo, sparked my interest in starting a blog. My blog pretty much brings all of my interests together in one spot. It’s a creative outlet for me outside of my normal 9-5 office type job. I think of it as something fun more than anything, but have been excited that photographers and retail sites have started to reach out to me to collaborate. It has also been a great way to get connected with other Boston natives who have similar interests – I’ve met a lot of great people because of my blog!

Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Working a 9-5 office job coupled with my blog makes it tough to find time to constantly put out good content. It can definitely be challenging to continue to build a following. At times, if you don’t put out good content consistently, you can lose a lot of followers pretty rapidly, which is disappointing. However, you can always bounce back and I try not to take it too seriously. I want my following to be people who are actually interested in my content and not people just looking for a follow back.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My blog is focused around fashion and travel, but I also incorporate some beauty, food, and lifestyle content as well at times. I have both an Instagram page @daytodaymae as well as a website, daytodaymae.com. I try to make my content interesting and fresh. My focus is providing images that inspire people, whether it’s where to travel to next, what to wear to their next upcoming event, or something else.

Due to the fact that my full time job is at a company that is HQ’d in Paris, France, I have had the opportunity to travel to France and Europe quite a bit. I also make sure to plan at least 2 trips a year to somewhere that I have never been. Ever since I was little, the value of traveling and learning about cultures other than your own, as well as just taking some time to relax for your mental health, has been instilled in me. My Nana was a travel agent and her and my Gramps traveled to more places than I can count on my hands and toes. I remember my Gramps bringing me back small souvenirs from each of his trips, along with fantastic stories that inspired me to start my own list of about a million and one places I want to travel to. I have now been to over 15 countries, and I love to share what I learned about my trips to others so they can have an amazing experience as well.

This, along with my serious shopping addiction (haha) have fueled my content.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Boston is a perfect place to start a blog. The changing of the seasons makes for so many different looks and wardrobe pieces to try whether it’s a cozy sweater in the winter or a cute romper in the summer. There are also so many beautiful places to explore in Boston. I love the cute little side streets in Beacon Hill or the South End in the Spring or Summer, or by the Charles River, or right by where I live in the North End for some beautiful scenery.

For anyone out there looking to start their own blog in Boston, I would recommend keeping up to date with new restaurants, bars, and places for photos. Sometimes the scenery can make the whole photo!
