Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Groezinger.
Anna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up with children around me at all times as my Mom, had an in-home daycare. I also spent many years studying and working with children on the Autism Spectrum. In addition to the children I worked with on the spectrum, I also have been a nanny/sitter for typical children for over 10 years. I left those careers behind to pursue one behind the camera. I will forever cherish those years spent working children of all kinds. Those experiences have made me a more passionate, patient and devoted person; not only to my clients, but to all people. The unabashed love, joy and imagination children bring to life is one of the main reasons why I was inspired to grab a camera. Being able to capture the essence of children and their family is what continues to fuel my creative drive.
MacIsaac is actually my middle name which was passed down from my grandmother; who unfortunately, passed before I was born. It’s unique and I carry the name proudly. So proudly, in fact, that I decided to name my company after it!
I am a full-time, self-taught photographer who enjoys capturing life’s moments for others to treasure. Prior to officially starting my business in 2014, I always felt like photography was calling me. Any family gathering, I was always found to be roaming around with my little point-and-shoot camera and then spend hours on the computer using Paint Shop Pro to edit my work. Eventually finding myself upgrading to Photoshop and the countless number of times family has told me “These are great, you should be a Photographer!” I finally decided, it was time to learn on a big-girl camera. I asked my family for Christmas of 2013 instead of everyone giving gifts, if my siblings could split the cost of my first “soccer-mom” DSLR. I ended up receiving the gift early and had a head start in November. I practiced on all my family members and cousins and their children and eventually leading to their friends and their children and so on. By February, I had watched enough YouTube videos and started asking for petty cash which meant it was time to open up business! With my experience working with children, I soon became an expert in newborn and baby photography. From that point forward, I have grown my business through hard-work, dedication and passion.
Living in a teeny-tiny Waltham apartment building with no savings for a studio, I worked by being an in-home photographer and traveled to clients homes. I brought all my studio equipment and built a mini studio in each person’s home. My teeny-tiny apartment soon became over crowded and I had to upgrade my compact car for an SUV to be able to transport everything I needed. Once life started to feel like we were living in a storage locker, we knew things had to change. My husband and I relocated to Shrewsbury, Ma and I opened my first studio in Worcester, MA.
Photography has given me a sense of purpose. I am constantly working on expanding my photography skills and embracing this beautiful world we live in and what it throws my way.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Photography has been relatively a smooth road for me. It has challenges for sure but overall my passion for what I’m doing has outweighed the negatives. Running a business is hard and boy has it been an eye opener! I continue to make mistakes only to learn from them. My biggest set back so far has been my recent relocation and change from solely in-home to studio sessions. Making major changes in any business can be damaging but I’m lucky to be supported by many dedicated clients who are happy for these changes and make the commute to the new studio. Who could be upset when you have loyal clients like that!?
Please tell us about Anna MacIsaac Photography.
I am a newborn and baby photographer. I focus on everything from maternity to newborn through baby’s first year. I offer a limited number of family sessions each year so that, I can continue to watch and document my clients grow. Newborn sessions have a special place in my heart and I strive to provide affordable options for families so that everyone has the budget for professional newborn photos. It is such a precious time when they are very little and I encourage families to come to me to document this time.
While you have many choices when selecting a photographer my business stands out for it’s simple and timeless images. Baby simply captured. By focusing on baby’s natural beauty rather than overwhelming props I am capable of capturing baby just the way they are. My studio walls are filled with many props and accessories to bring color to the photos and accent baby without losing them in the image. By properly supporting baby in poses and paying attention to details during the session, I use very little re-touching to preserve the image of your baby exactly as you want to remember them.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If there was anyway to learn to say “no” earlier in this journey, I would do that! While pursuing to be where I am today, I scarified a lot of personal time and making memories with my family and friends. I believe my business wouldn’t be as successful without that dedication however, since learning to say no and knowing limits, I can support and grow my business while still having sit-down dinners with my husband and enjoying my weekends with friends and family!
