Today we’d like to introduce you to Anique Seldon.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Anique. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been working in admissions for 5 years, with experience in junior boarding and international schools, however, my professional career actually began in law.
I was born in Scotland and attended public and independent schools, later moving to a beautiful English city in the South of England that I still call home. I attended undergraduate and postgraduate study at universities in Wales and went on to practice pharmaceutical liability after gaining my legal qualifications. Seeking some international experience, I was lucky to be awarded a legal internship in the heart of downtown New York through the Mountbatten Internship Programme, which also afforded me the opportunity to study international business practice.
During my year, I volunteered as the Assistant Director of an AIDS Foundation and, upon my return to the U.K., I assumed the role as chief executive of the Alzheimer’s research organization, C.A.R.E.
A few years later, I moved to the United States to marry an American I met during my time in New York. At this point, I had to decide the next step in my career, and the sector that really resonated with me was education. I had been so fortunate to experience independent education in my formative years, and I believe that those years provided me with a solid foundation, great work ethic, and strong values which I have carried since with me through every experience.
Having the ability to study and work internationally was also a dream come true and I want the next generation coming through to know that they should aim high and that all things are possible.
Admissions really seemed like the perfect fit for me. When I started at the British International School of Boston, everything fitted into place. No two days are alike. I love the interaction with families, it feels like I am really working for a purpose. Independent school education did a lot for me, it really changed the course of my life so to be able to help facilitate the same experience for students is great.
I am meeting with families, listening to the ambitions and dreams of prospective students, event planning, creating new and innovative marketing strategies, collaborating with my outstanding team, working with teachers and with other senior leaders to ensure that the program we offer is the best that it can be, the list goes on.
The admissions process can be overwhelming, so it is my job to make it a fun and engaging experience for families. I want to be sure that we are working not just on bringing kids into the school but continuing to work with them once they are here.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always going to be challenges and obstacles in life, but I strongly believe that every challenge is a stepping stone, offering skills and techniques that you cannot afford to miss. I know that I could not do my current job well without having first handled some big challenges.
To achieve in everything would make life very boring and I also believe that I would be caught up in a bubble of arrogance. Handling failures to me is a success, and this is something that is embedded in the philosophy of the British International School of Boston. We believe in “being ambitious”, which allows for a nurturing environment in which children can take risks, try new things, and celebrate their failures as they continue on their journeys to success.

Students also experience enriched curricula through Nord Anglia Education’s collaborations with The Juilliard School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and UNICEF.
By high school graduation, BISB students leave with the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma. Different from the standard high school diploma, the IBDP degree sets students apart on transcripts and résumés, signifying well-rounded global citizens that colleges around the world are seeking.
BISB prides itself on preparing students for a rapidly changing job market, an invaluable asset for a generation in the innovation economy.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have so many wonderful memories of my childhood. I am from a very close-knit family and being the youngest of four certainly had its advantages. I think the best times were spent around the dinner table en famille discussing our days, laughing, and putting the world to rights. Children can learn so many transferable skills through these interactions.
