Meet Anim Aweh of Elijah Was Brave in Brighton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anim Aweh.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Brighton, Ma. I attended umass Amherst then later completed my masters in social work at Salem state university. Soon after completing graduate school, I began my journey on becoming a licensed therapist. I worked with veterans, children and men. All where I gained my experience in working with these populations and learning the particular needs they all have.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been far from a smooth road, I relocated to California following the death of my really good friend Dawn Jaffier. She motivated me to continue my journey and in working with children and supporting youth at risk, she literally dedicated her whole life to kids in Boston.

Please tell us about Elijah Was Brave.
I wrote a children’s book on mental health that is aimed to educate, normalize and empower families who may be noticing or do not know how to identify certain issues in their children. I wrote this book based on concerns and common issues I observed on my work. I also want to encourage families to start having start having the conversation regarding mental health early.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I don’t think luck has had to do with anything so far, it has been more so taking calculated risks. I’ve learned through my journey that there no rewards with any risks. “High risk yield high rewards”
