Meet Ania Zaroda and Michael Gurevich of Mike & Patty’s in Bay Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ania Zaroda and Michael Gurevich.

Mike & Patty’s was started in 2008 by two friends that worked together at South End Formaggio, Patty & Mike. By early 2010 Patty was looking to move on and the original Mike carried on. As Mike & Patty’s grew in popularity, growing pains and health issues arose and in mid-2012, Mike decided to sell the business. On New Year’s Eve, of 2013, Mike & Patty’s reopened with new owners Ania Zaroda and Michael Gurevich, two total newcomers to the restaurant business.

Mike & Patty’s was re-branded in 2014 and after a brief stint with the original equipment and layout, M&P had outgrown its space and in the fall of 2014 the couple was left with no choice but to gut the entire space and redesign the tiny eatery. Among all the trials and tribulations of Mike & Patty’s and its new owners, including the renovation, almost having to close down the business, a failed kickstarter campaign, a landlord change and other numerous issues. M&P was finally where it needed to be in early 2015 and so far, it’s shown no signs of slowing down.

Since Ania & Mike took over, they have hired a CIA-trained chef, Jesse Rosen to manage the shop and together they are currently working on expansion plans.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mike & Patty’s story. Tell us more about the business.
We are Boston’s highest rated breakfast and sandwich shop. We’re located in the historical oasis of Bay Village, one of Boston’s most centrally located but least known neighborhoods.

Mike & Patty’s is only 175 square feet and we like to refer to ourselves as “Your Tiny Sandwich Shop”, in fact we believe we’re the smallest eatery in the City of Boston.

We specialize in breakfast sandwiches and also serve some amazing sandwiches for lunch as well. We’re 2x Best of Boston and have been featured in numerous other media outlets and food websites.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We definitely see the resurgence of the mom & pop, the high-quality, differentiated, unique concept usually found in a smaller space versus the larger chains of the past.
