Meet Andrea Beane of Prema Power Yoga in Marblehead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Beane.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started practicing Baptiste yoga in 2001 and immediately fell in love with all that the challenging practice had to offer. I had been a runner for years and loved a good “sweat’ and “hard work out” but my body couldn’t really handle that sort of high impact intensity anymore. Yet, through this style of yoga I could still find so many of the same physical benefits but so so much more.

In 2005, I completed my first 200 hour Yoga Alliance certification at Sonic Yoga in NYC where I taught full time at several studios (after I left my stressful and unfulfilling career in Banking). In 2007, I attended Level 1 training with Baron Baptiste as well as many other trainings since with this amazing teacher. In fact, I am headed to Mexico with the Baptiste team next week! It has been a dream of mine for a long time to open my own studio, create a strong community and share my passion for yoga with as many people as possible. I truly believe that the more people practicing and experiencing yoga, the better!! When I am not on my mat I am spending time with my two amazing children and super supportive husband.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve been lucky, the road has been a family smooth one so far. I’m sure it helps that I absolutely love what I do. There was a need for more yoga in Marblehead and the community has been extremely supportive and excited about our powerful style of Baptiste Power Yoga. There will always be people trying to challenge me, but I remind myself to stay true to who I am, true to my vision and what I want to create. I am a leader.

Prema Power Yoga – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am an experienced teacher of Baptiste Power Vinyasa style yoga. This is a powerful style of yoga linking movement with breath based on Baron Baptiste’s book, Journey into Power. This yoga not only challenges you physically but challenges you mentally as well and can offer transformational benefits to those who are committed and open. This heated practice is accessible to all levels and all ages. It may not be everyone’s yoga though, and I have realized that I can’t make everyone happy, so we just do what we do really well.

We teach kids, tweens and teen yoga classes too.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment was when my class sold out and I couldn’t fit even one more yoga mat into the studio. To look around at the community I created and know that I’ve done something really good to help others, felt SO good!
