Meet Amanda Money of A-Glow Dance & Fitness in West Boylston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Money.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always loved to dance and started with formal lessons as a little girl of probably no more than 5 years old. I told my mother that I wanted to “do that” as I pointed to the classroom of tap dancers while we waited for my oldest sister to finish her gymnastics lessons.

I went on to college for my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance in 2009 as well as my Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2012. I started working as a therapist but missed the artistic outlet of dancing; once a dancer, always a dancer. I searched all of central Massachusetts for adult-dance classes and could find next to nothing. I even traveled to Boston to take classes but soon realized that the commute was not something I could continue long-term. I asked myself, why not open your own business? I have more than enough education and dedication to open my own Adult-Only Dance and Fitness studio! I took certifications in Barre and Pilates and then dusted off my dancing shoes and opened A-Glow Dance & Fitness in October of 2016.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The challenge of operating the studio has been my need to continue my current full-time PT job and some days there just simply are not enough hours to do it all! However, as the studio grows and the staff is being hired, many of the new business owner stresses are beginning to melt away.

A-Glow Dance & Fitness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
A-Glow Dance & Fitness is an Adult-Only facility for both novice and advanced dancers as well as fitness clients offering superior instruction. As a Physical Therapist, I personally make the effort to know my clients and their bodies and offer tailor-made modifications to clients to prevent injuries and improve fitness results, even in the group class setting! You are not just another body in class, we are a small boutique fitness studio which offers comradery and support. We offer 6-week workshops for those looking to try something new and have never danced before.

We offer drop-in dance classes and workshops in ballet, tap, jazz, and contemporary; and fitness classes in barre and Pilates. I also offer private Pilates Reformer sessions utilizing my expertise as a Physical Therapist to help clients meet individual fitness and well-being goals.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Reading the online reviews left by clients has been so incredibly touching. Strangers becoming friends and the studio as a whole becoming a community that supports each other in classes has been a beautiful experience.
