Meet Alyssa Parker of Alyssa Parker Photography in Lowell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Parker.

Alyssa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I guess I have my Mom to thank for my love of photography. No, she isn’t a photographer herself, but she did give me disposable cameras to use when I was really young. I would take photos of birthday parties, flowers, friends, and pets. I couldn’t wait to get the photos developed and scrapbook my work! When I was old enough to babysit I saved up all my money for a digital camera, then eventually saved for my first DSLR and shot my first wedding when I was 16.

After high school, I decided to get my degree in applied arts – photography, and a certificate in small business at Madison College. I learned so much and got to explore all different types of photography. I took a liking to commercial photography, but portraits and weddings have always been what I’m most passionate about. I was blessed to be able to assist some very talented photographers, while still in school, to gather knowledge and experience in the wedding industry.

Right after college, I landed a job as a full-time commercial photographer and I would spend my weekends photographing weddings, couples, families, and high-school seniors. Shortly after, my husband was asked to relocate with the company he worked for, so we packed up and moved from Madison, Wisconsin to Boston, Massachusetts. When we got here January of 2017, I had the choice to go back to a steady job being a commercial photographer or dare to really pursue my business full-time. My husband encouraged me to focus on my business and so that’s what I did! And I couldn’t be more happy with our decision!

Has it been a smooth road?
Oh boy, when we made the decision to move I was terrified. I had made so many connections in Wisconsin, the thought of starting all over with this little business of mine was a struggle for me.

And then, there is always the struggle of keeping up with social media, blogging, and getting my name out there. Luckily, I have been incredibly blessed with awesome clients here who have referred me, and for that, I am SO grateful.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Alyssa Parker Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in weddings and natural light portraits. My style is light, romantic, and timeless. I love taking time to get to know my clients, (after all, we will be spending the whole wedding day together!) and love helping in any way I can, not just with photography, but with the planning and anything else they may need. I know from experience how stressful planning a wedding can be, so if I can offer my suggestions, advice, refer awesome creative, I gladly will!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the architecture in Boston! The old buildings, cobblestone roads, and the history. Oh, and I love being so close to the ocean! This Midwest girl is not used to that.
