Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Berkovitz.
Alyssa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started teaching myself photography as a hobby in high school, but I didn’t think it was possible for ME to start a photography company, especially after getting a Communications degree. I worked a brief stint in Corporate America and it pushed me to realize that taking pictures is what I’m meant to be doing. I started my business 1 1/2 years ago and haven’t looked back.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The hardest part was deciding to leave my full time job to start a business! Holy commitment. My mom, who was my number one fan, wrote me a powerful note that still brings me confidence. It says, “Live each day with fulfillment, to be happy. It took me too many years to realize this. Corporate life was only somewhat fulfilling and just a way to make money. That is a waste of time. Find a way in your life to be a whole person, to be happy, kind, and fulfilled every day. Happiness comes from within. No one can give it to you.”
Alyssa B. Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My specialty is weddings, but I also feel special when shooting family portraits, parties, headshots, dogs, and short films!
What makes me stand out?
I have a creative eye and I love to experiment. I always have fun while shooting and I think that energy transfers into my vibrant work. When my clients are worried about looking awkward in front of the camera, I’m quick to get them to relax. My clients are so important to me and the relationships I’ve made with them inspire me every day to work hard!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I made a 1 minute time-lapse video of myself growing up in pictures and global pharmaceutical company, Merck, bought it to use for commercial purposes.
