Meet Alexis Aguila of INC Boston Dance Crew in Cambridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Aguila.

Alexis, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
INC Boston Dance Crew is a dance team started in 2017. We wanted to provide new opportunities for dancers in the Boston Dance Community to learn and share with one another. Our goal is to spread new vibes and dance styles to community by hosting dance workshops and performing at dance shows and competitions.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
INC Dance Crew went through many changes in the beginning. We started off with a completely different group of people compared to the team we have now. This shift required us to adapt to fit the interests and goals of the new members. Our mission went from focusing on foundation training to showcasing at dance performances and shows. Leadership and organization was ambiguous at first because we didn’t have any set precedence before us, therefore we didn’t know exactly what roles and responsibilities needed to be delegated. As things came up, like hosting dance workshops, competitions and making team apparel, we had to assign responsibilities based on our leaders’ skills and availability. Now that we’re wrapping up our first full year of dance workshops and performances, we’ve been able to distinguish our leadership positions and set expectations for each role.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with INC Boston Dance Crew – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in dance workshops and dance performances. We are most proud of the positive attitudes and environment we create in our dance classes and when we perform. It’s a very fun-loving group of people, and we want to share that with others. At the end of the Fall semester, we hosted our first dance workshop series and invited dance teachers from New Jersey, New York and even from California to teach for us. This past semester we have been able to host monthly workshops taught by our own members and more teachers from outside of Boston while creating a dance set which we will perform at various shows on the East Coast.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Plans for the future include hosting more dance workshops taught by dancers/choreographers from outside the Boston Dance Community and still highlighting the talent within the community. We are looking forward to collaborating more with other dance teams in the area and performing dance sets that push us creatively.
