Meet Alex Lambroulis of The Gyro Spot

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Lambroulis.

Alex, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up in Greece I enjoyed eating gyros and other Greek street food. Every street corner has a gyro shop. Along with my mother Potoula, and best friend Steve Matluk, we decided to open The Gyro Spot.

After a long time preparing and coming up with the name, concept, menu and creating the buzz on social media, The Gyro Spot opened its doors in July 2012 in Manchester, NH. Having a history of restaurants, my mom knew what it took to run the restaurant.

The hard part was introducing a relatively new concept to the area. People knew about gyros, but hadn’t really experienced the traditional gyro! Thankfully people tried it. They loved it, talked about it and the rest is history! 5 years later we are still going strong and have opened our second location in Dover, NH.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As you may know, the restaurant business is one of the hardest businesses to get into. There are a lot of struggles and successes along the way. We have had our share. The biggest struggle was helping customers understand What traditional Greek cuisine should be.

Getting our name out there has also been a bit of a struggle. But thanks to word of mouth and social media, we have been able to overcome that as well. Overall it has been a fun roller coaster ride

Please tell us about The Gyro Spot.
The Gyro Spot offers traditional Greek Street food with a modern twist. We also offer Greek comfort foods like avgolemono and fakes soup. Village salads, baklava, and loukoumades.

Our environment is casual and fun. Fast counter service and an open kitchen provide customers with peace of mind knowing exactly what they are ordering and that it’s being prepared right in front of them.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Over preparing. In both locations, we didn’t expect to have as much success as we did right away. We figured it would be gradual. so if we had to do it all over again, I’d say we would have more staff, more time for training and more inventory to start.

Pricing:

  • Gyros are affordable from $6.25 to $8.99
