Meet Alex Brown of DJAB Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Brown.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alex. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started taking interest in the entertainment industry about 10 years ago, learning to play different instruments and attending concerts, I knew from a young age I wanted to be involved in this kind of work. When I was about 10 my Mom actually bought me a sound board (which I still have). I wanted to become a sound engineer at this time and was pursuing that career path, but there was really no business for such a young kid, so I began to DJ some of my friends’ parties, I kept getting asked to do events and people where asking how much I charge. This is when I actually started getting payed. I have always been a self-guided learner and taught myself a lot about sound and lighting from videos and just “playing around”, most of my other experiences from professionals like my uncle who has a Ph.D. in Acoustical Engineering and entertainment professionals I have worked for. At the age of 15 I toured for a year with Step Up 2 Dance, anywhere from New Jersey to Upstate NY and Even out to Exeter NH. This gave me a lot of the MC training I still use today. While growing my business I also have been given some unique opportunities as an individual, DJ, and EDM music producer. Last year I began as a sound technician and lightweight rigger for Performance Stage Inc. who provides the sound system and stage for The Color Run. Another great opportunity was when I began DJ’ing Teen nights at The Colosseum Nightclub in Providence which has taught me so much about being club DJ. Lastly at the start of the year I was presented the opportunity to have one of my songs published on iTunes. My major goals are to grow my business and someday DJ at Ultra Music Festival in Miami.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Unfortunately nothing is ever a smooth road, I have encountered plenty of problems along the way from tire kickers and people rejecting my full potential. I also have been too generous and allowed people to take advantage of me and my talents for their own profit.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about DJAB Entertainment – what should we know?
My company, DJAB Entertainment, focuses on a broad range of entertainment services including DJ, Photo Booth, Audiovisual Event Productions, and even Equipment Rental. We are known for our quality and value of services as well as our up to date and latest equipment, in addition we pride ourselves on being easy to work with, helpful and professional. As a company our goal is to change the entire entertainment market to focus on quality, and value instead of low cost and also to be honest in our work and even our pricing. We are not looking to take all of our customers’ money and we show exactly how we get to our pricing so you know all of what you are getting for the exact value you get it for. The values that set us apart from others are that we take extensive care to make sure things are done professionally, safely and correctly.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel that being a self-learner and self-motivated is most important to my success because it pushes me into opportunities that defy what I can do and shows how with a little effort you can upgrade yourself to whatever you want to be.

Pricing:

  • Our mobile DJ services start at $225 plus $25 per hour
  • Our club DJ rates start at $50 per hour
  • Sound, Lighting and Rigging technicians start at $30 per hour
