Meet Adam Caron of Soulful Life Photography in Western Massachusetts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Caron.

Adam, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My hobby in photography started young admiring my grandfather’s portrait work. Following in his footsteps my mother and father also covered our walls with their own family portraits. As I got older my interest in photography grew and the hobby turned into a passion. Not long after I got out of the Air Force my son was born I decided to become a stay at home dad. When my son was 8 months old our family got orders to move to Europe and was fascinated with my surroundings. I spent much of my time trying to capture all that Europe had to offer with my camera. After a while of going on day adventures and taking landscape photos, a friend of the family from the military base we lived at came to see me and said he loved my landscape work and wanted to know if I could take some photos of his family. Little did I know then, at 27, this would change the course of my life forever. After I took the photos of his family, more and more people kept asking me to take photos of their family. Before I knew it, I was taking photos of all the events and Military head shots for the base. It was this driving force that pushed me into taking more classes and my thirst for knowledge grew. After a bunch of online classes, and hours of learning from YouTube on my own. I decided it was time to go learn from people who could help strengthen my portfolio. So, with the support of my friends and family, I enrolled back home in Western Massachusetts at Hallmark Institute of Photography. I spent 10 months learning how to tell a story with my photographs and getting inspired by the most amazing teachers and classmates. On graduation day, after months of hard work in an accelerated paced program, I found myself sitting in the rows with all my classmates listening to my instructors up on the stage. I was honored and surprised to hear my teacher up on stage talking about a student that had earned the award for Outstanding Achievement for Highest Class Credit. In front of my mom and dad, and my 3-year-old son, I heard my name. To this day I still can’t believe that I a C student at best in high school had graduated with the highest GPA in the class. After Hallmark I decided to pursue wedding and event photography. Soulful Life Photography was born. We started very small with very little. We had to learn about building a brand and how hard it is to start out on your own. We made some mistakes and learned from them. During my first year we had one wedding client. Every year we grew a bit more and found our story and in that helped to learn to tell our clients stories. Today the company prides itself on telling our clients stories with a fun and a relaxed team of professional photographers. We continue 10 years later to take family portraits for the first family that started it all. We have captured their family grow in many ways with newborn photos, family portraits and we were even there to capture them jumping off 30′ cliffs wearing their wedding attire in Jamaica on their wedding day. I will forever be thankful they asked me to take their portrait.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In every new per suit, there is a learning curve. Every business needs a client base to be successful and being a photographer does not guarantee you’ll have people to take photos of. We Spent much of our time in the early days on a limited budget getting our name out to the public and building our portfolio. Being of a creative mindset, learning how to start a legal business presented challenges.

Please tell us about Soulful Life Photography.
Our business focuses mostly on weddings and events, we are best known for helping our clients feel comfortable while having fun and getting wonderful photos. I am most proud of the people who help make Soulful Life what it is today. From my amazing office manager to the 3 amazing women that shoot every wedding with me and help tell our clients amazing stories.

I think what sets us apart is that we focus on helping our clients feel comfortable and fun with us, and that comes out in our photos. From our bridesmaids and groomsmen just having fun, to walking into the middle of Faneuil Hall and taking a dip photo in front of a room of strangers. Our clients come to us and say thank you for helping us relax while telling our story in photos.

We love weddings and getting to know our amazing clients and their families. You’re more than clients, you’re friends.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My best childhood memories are all the trips my family took. We didn’t have a ton of money, but my parents always found a way to take us on an adventure and explore the world around us. We camped, visited friends and family and stayed in hotels up and down the East Coast. My parents really showed my sister and I that there is a lot to see in this world. We were shown that we should not just sit in our house but get out and explore and try new things. I make sure to take my family out on similar adventures and will continue to explore the world with my parents.
