Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Moe.
Nicole, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started when I was cutting (horribly) and coloring my own hair in high school. I really enjoyed changing up my look and thought maybe I can do this as a real job for other people someday and make them feel beautiful. I went to cosmetology school right after high school and loved every minute of it. After graduating, I began my career as an assistant at a salon. I assisted other stylists and learned the ins and outs of the salon. A couple years later, I transitioned into a stylist and was super excited. I was at the same salon for about five years. After I hit five years, I kind of had a mental block, wasn’t feeling inspired. I decided to take a break from doing hair. My break lasted about 9 months or so and I realized this is my passion and wanted to succeed in what I’m good at. During my break I worked with my dad doing construction and actually loved it!! I would do hair at home after work and really missed doing it every day! I finally realized my passion. So, I decided to get back in a salon and I couldn’t be happier! The salon I’m at now is the perfect fit and I really feel like I’m where I’m supposed to be.
Has it been a smooth road?
There have definitely been some bumps in the road along the way. Definitely staying true to yourself is most important. Sometimes you can get lost in it all. Never give up either. As an assist I wanted to give up many times but I stuck to it and so glad I did. Building your clientele can be a little tricky too. Stay positive and don’t take any criticism personal. Most people just want to help you learn!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Wishbone Beauty Lounge – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I love hair color; anything from a retouch application to a corrective color. Hair painting is my favorite! Getting creative and customizing a look for my client for everyday life is most important. I love enhancing natural color to completely change your look. Styling and updos are my thing too. If you love beachy wavy hair, I’m you’re girl!
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I think the biggest barrier to female leadership is prejudices that still exists today. Women always should believe in themselves and believe anything can happen if you put your mind to it. You can do anything!
