Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Caruso.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nicole. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always been interested in the beauty/fashion industry. I graduated from Suffolk University where I studied sociology and criminal justice, but it wasn’t my passion. From there, I went to Elizabeth Grady School of Esthetics and got my license as an esthetician. I worked in a salon/spa for 16 years gaining experience in skincare and makeup. I am also certified in eyelash extensions and lash lift and I have taken many makeup courses, including one with celebrity makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic. I love learning new trends and techniques in this ever evolving industry.
I started my own business about 3 years ago doing eyelash extensions, skincare, spray tan and freelance makeup for weddings, events, photo shoots, and fashion shows. I love being able to make people feel good about themselves and giving them a little confidence boost. That is what it’s all about; making people happy. I love what I do and the relationships that I have formed with my clients. This is where my passion lies.
Most recently, I just opened Nicole Caruso Lash & Beauty Boutique, my newest venture. I have always dreamed of having my own beauty boutique and it is finally a reality! It just goes to show that hard work and determination really pay off and if you want it bad enough you can do anything. I have been lucky to work with so many amazingly talented women in this industry, many of whom I consider to be great friends. It is really true that when women support each other, great things happen!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always going to be bumps in the road with anything you do. There were definitely times that I wondered if I should try something else and make this a “side job.” But I knew, no matter what, this is the field I was meant to be in. This can be a difficult industry, especially when you’re just starting out. It’s tough to make a name for yourself and build a clientele, but if you stay focused and determined it is so rewarding. I honestly love what I do!
My advice would be, as cliché as it sounds, to follow your dreams. You’ll never know unless you try, and it might just be the most rewarding thing you’ve ever done. And, if it doesn’t work out you’ll learn a lot in the process. Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t do something. Life is too short to not be happy.
Please tell us about Nicole Caruso Lash & Beauty Boutique.
I am the owner of Nicole Caruso Lash & Beauty Boutique where I specialize in makeup and lash services. At Lash & Beauty Boutique I offer makeup applications, wedding trials and makeup lessons. I will travel throughout New England for weddings. A big part of my business is lash and brow services, which include eyelash extensions, lash lifts and tints as well as brow shaping and tinting. It is a one stop shop for all of your skincare and beauty needs; also providing facials, waxing and spray tanning. It is a relaxing, girly boutique where you can get prepped for your upcoming wedding, special event, or just pamper yourself.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
If I could give any advice it would be to never give up. It can be really difficult to figure out what your dreams and passions are, so don’t be afraid to try things and fail. One of my favorite quotes is, “If you try something you risk failure. If you don’t, you ensure it.” There will always be reasons why you shouldn’t do something, but if it is something you are passionate about, you owe it to yourself to give it a shot. If you believe in yourself you can do anything.
