Today we’d like to introduce you to Lory Sun.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lory. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began my artistic journey at a young age in Transylvania by watching my mother sew, and eventually began making jewelry and fashion accessories. Only after moving to the United States in 2013, my creations started getting attention when I would make pieces for my husband’s photography. From there, I realized there was a market for my vision and so began, Lory Sun Artistry.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t find myself having any more struggles than anyone else in the industry. Every day has its ups and downs. The only true difficulty for me was starting from scratch in a new country without friends and family. As far as any advice for any women starting out, I would say work hard and believe in yourself because no one else is going to do it for you.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a full-time fashion designer and part-time makeup artist. I started my brand Lory Sun Artistry in 2016 and probably best known for my couture accessories and corsets. Most notably, my metal gloves and my adorable pitbull who often models my headpieces on social media. I don’t really have anything specific that I am most proud of outside my being able to succeed coming from where I did. I think what sets me apart from other designers may be that I never know what I am creating next. I don’t have a specific method for creating. Most everything I design comes from improvisation.
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I don’t really believe there are any barriers that you can’t overcome with hard work and determination. Anyone can succeed with the right amount of perseverance.
