Today we’d like to introduce you to Leyla Langlois.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Leyla. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been a hairstylist for 16 years and was working at a corporate-owned chain salon for 13 of those years. I took advantage of any class that I could to increase my knowledge and confidence as well as educating for a hair tool brand myself. While teaching classes at other salons, I got a sense of what I liked and didn’t like and when the opportunity to open my own salon was in front of me I jumped at the chance. I took the best of what I love and put it all together to create WaterColor Salon. We have an amazing group of stylists here from a variety of backgrounds and that allows us to be able to offer our clients so much more than the cookie cutter appointment. I wanted to create a warm atmosphere that has a welcoming coastal beachy feel, the energy and happiness is incredible and that leads to beautiful hair! We opened in May of 2017 and haven’t looked back once!
Has it been a smooth road?
I was that person who chopped Barbie’s hair off and knew from a very young age, I wanted to be a stylist. I did not have a business background so the process of putting all my ideas together was overwhelming at times but I was incredibly motivated. Many, many spreadsheets later I presented my plan and it was a go. I did the build myself for creative and budgeting reasons but that gives me an even bigger sense of pride. After our first anniversary, I re-evaluated some things but made very few changes. Our flow is incredible and we have been even more successful than I ever dreamed.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with WaterColor Salon – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a Goldwell trained MasterColorist and have attended classes in their NY & LA Academy. I also had the opportunity to go to the StyleLab at Living Proof in Cambridge. I educated for BioIonic for 6 years and specialize in their Retex system. At WaterColor Salon, we have stylists trained in a variety of programs such as Toni & Guy, Brazilian Blowout, Vidal Sassoon, Oscar Blondie, Frederic Fekkai and more. We have also attended the Goldwell Color Zoom in Las Vegas, Miami, and Barcelona.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I use Instagram on a daily basis, it’s an incredible source of inspiration and also allows us to showcase our own work.
