Life and Work with Lana Lorenz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lana Lorenz.

Lana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a marketing specialist by day, so I have been familiar with social media influencers and blogging for a while. I was interested in starting my own blog, but I did not do so until I moved to Boston this year. I was in a new city where I didn’t know anyone in the dead of winter and my Instagram and blog became my creative and social outlets. Networking with other bloggers and photographers was a great way for me to meet girlfriends in the city. Some of the closest friends I have here, I have met through sliding into their DMs on Instagram! I am still very new to all of this and it has been interesting and fun trying new things and putting myself out there. There are a ton of valuable skills I have learned through this experience and I look forward to seeing where it takes me.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Every career field and interest comes with times of high productivity and low. When an idea is new there is so much momentum and excitement. I feel unstoppable some days but then other days, I may lose focus. After a time, it can be hard to keep that momentum going once the idea starts to have obstacles. The advice I would give to anyone is to just keep going. Take a break if you need it, but do something every day that is furthering your project or career even in the smallest way.

Please tell us about your business.
My career is in Marketing for an IT consulting company. I am very passionate about what I do and feel so lucky to have found such a great company in the greater Boston area that feels like a family here in Massachusetts. My Instagram account and blog are focused on style, travel, and baking. I am an avid cookie baker and used to own an at home bakery where I sold customer decorated sugar cookies for any occasion. My account is different from many other influencers in Boston because it is very colorful and bright. I wear a ton of colors unlike most people in a city. I will choose the bubble gum pink wool coat over a black parka any day! I also plan to start sharing more of my crafting and DIY projects on the blog soon. I enjoy doing anything creative, so I am usually painting or cooking something!

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
You don’t have to follow the career that you got your degree in. Try different things. See what you are passionate about. We decide at 18 or 19 what degree we want to pursue and we have so little life experience at the time. Don’t be afraid to change it up as long as you are responsible about it. My degree is in Geography and History and I knew from the day I graduated that marketing was really where I wanted to be. I taught myself and used resources online to get me up to par.
