Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsi Gotauco.
Kelsi, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started out doing home health care as a nursing assistant because I’ve always had a natural desire to care for other people. I believe that my empathy stems from helping my mother take care of my brother Chris, who is severely disabled both mentally and physically. Although I never looked at my own health as a priority when I was growing up, as I began to work with other people who were like my brother, I realized that if I really wanted to help others in the long run, I also needed to make sure I took good care of myself. My experience of working with those who weren’t even capable of improving their own health made me realize how lucky I am that I am capable and I shouldn’t take that for granted. From this point, I started exercising and becoming more aware of what I fed my body.
The results didn’t show right away but the process of learning how to exercise and nourish my body was life-changing for me. Something about working hard to achieve the desired outcome is such a euphoric feeling for me! I developed an extreme passion for fitness and nutrition and it drew me to an interest in competing in a fitness competition. I didn’t know much about them at the time but that’s what sparked my excitement even more. At the time, I was young and didn’t have the money to pay for a coach to train me or a nutrition plan but I was eager to push myself out of my comfort zone and decided I would commit myself anyway. In April of 2016, I competed in the show – Battle on the Beach, where I earned first place in the open class, first place in debut and second place in novice!
I believe that my fitness journey and desire to help people lead me into one of my greatest accomplishments, becoming a New England Patriots Cheerleader! From this point, I knew that I wanted to continue living a healthy and fit lifestyle so I decided to switch gears with my career path. I became a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
Has it been a smooth road?
For the women who are just starting their fitness journey, there is something I need to share with you! Do not view fitness as a hobby, know that it is a mindset and not only that but a continuous process that you go through. A big issue that I see with women and I have also experienced is having low self-esteem. One of the greatest things I’ve learned throughout my journey is that when you make a daily effort to work towards a goal whether its fitness related or not, you will feel significant! And that feeling of significance is a result of staying committed to a goal which will boost your confidence. But do know that you will experience many challenges throughout the process of accomplishing whatever it is that you want. A smooth road doesn’t exist when it comes to achieving anything worth working for. What really makes the process spectacular is developing a positive and strong mindset. If you ever off track from your goals, you will recognize the negative feelings and energy that come along from that. This will only prove to you how much better and more confident you feel when you make an effort to get after that goal every single day!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with KTaco Fitness – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I have an online fitness and nutrition coaching business – KTacoFitness. I offer customized training and nutrition plans to help people who want to improve their physique, health, and mindset. My clients follow their entire workout plan on my app KTacoFitness through exclusive video demonstrations showing them how to perform the exercise properly. They can also record all of their sets, reps, weight and upload progress photos in the app. This allows me to monitor them closely in order to help them achieve the best results! I take a very individual approach with coaching my clients because I understand that what might work for one person might not work for someone else. I provide personal training services and teach group classes as well, I work out of a gym in Rhode Island called Peter Mollo Fitness.
I think what really sets me apart from other professionals in the fitness industry is the unique balance that I teach my clients about health/fitness and living a life without completely restricting all of the things that they truly enjoy. I’m really proud of the systems I’ve developed to educate my clients on how to gain control over their body and mindset. What I love most about my job is that I get to show people how developing healthy habits can improve more than just their fitness, it will improve their overall quality of life!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
One of the apps I use and recommend to my clients is my fitness pal. Learning how to track what we eat is one of the best ways to learn how to gain control over our own body. I believe it is crucial that we continue to develop our mindsets in order to successfully reach our health goals and sustain them. One of my favorite ways to do that is through audio books and podcast. I really enjoy listening to Lewis Howes podcast because he features a variety of people on his show who share inspiring stories and life lessons. Another one of my favorites is the MFCEO project by Andy Frisella. I thoroughly appreciate his blunt attitude and strong opinions.
