Life and Work with Keisha Jean-Louis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keisha Jean-Louis.

Keisha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started doing Mary Kay when I was 19 yrs. old. I did it for extra income because I was never able to work a full time because I played basketball in college.

After graduating college I started up a clothing line – Queensknow, to promote and advertise women of all shapes and sizes. The experience I gained with mark may I was able to learn how to apply makeup, people always asked me for tips etc& I turned it into a business. Doing faces for events birthdays and photoshoots. Correlating with the fashion and clothing building clients from my previous business – Queensknow.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, the obstacles created room for strength and lessons I’ll have forever. I really just taught myself everything and because I’m so protective of my babies (business) it’s really hard for me to let people in. So, I have and am still learning that I need to take in as much as I put out.

My advice to other women is to find someone you look up to -look for mentorship opportunities -so you don’t have to have as many obstacles because 9 times out of 10 they have already been there. Also, take your time! Do not rush the process.

Please tell us about BeatByKeish & Queensknow.
I have a clothing line that I’m excited to relaunch this year but I also do makeup I am a makeup artist and I love learning and sharing. I do a live segment every Monday on my Instagram called makeup Monday’s, where I and my followers shamakeup up tips. I’ve also been a participant in fashion shows across Boston. I’m most proud of my ability to connect women and show beauty in all shapes and sizes. I feel as though what sets me apart is my transperancy.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Do your research, put in the hours and invest in yourself. The scarifies you make now, will be well worth it in the future.
