Life and Work with Karen Ordoñez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Ordoñez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Karen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve had a passion for makeup for as long as I could remember and I knew I had a skill for it when I can draw a cat wing eyeliner at the age of ten, haha. I got into the makeup industry about 9 years ago I’ve worked at Ulta, Lancome and currently at Sephora. Over the years, I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by experienced makeup artists on guiding me on how to better my techniques, skills and making women look and feel beautiful. This all gave me the confidence today to do freelance work for weddings, proms, events and photo shoots and early of last year, I decided to put a name to my business GlamminwithKaren.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road for me, I’ve had times when I lose touch on inspirations or get caught up on my full-time job and also working the second job that I forget about working on my freelance work and business and helping it grow. Advice on other young women is to never lose interest in your passion and to surround yourself with people that support you grow and network.

Please tell us about GlamminwithKaren.
I am a freelance makeup artist that works on-site and accommodates to your needs on your special day, I typically I am known for weddings. I love to provide my clients with high-performance makeup products and skincare especially providing professional lighting to help create a flawless face and a perfect photo Op.

What sets me apart from other makeup business is that I’ve experienced large wedding parties and small wedding parties that have prepared to work efficiently and to still have my clients feel beautiful and at ease.

I am so proud seeing the look on my client’s faces when they see their face in the mirror for the first time and watching their confidence boost up making them feel beautiful on the inside and out ready to walk down the aisle.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I believe that women are positioned for any opportunities whether they are big or small, it will always be a step forward in the right direction. Sometimes, we have to be go-getters to have the right opportunity come to us.
