Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Lennon.
Kara, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My fitness career started in 2012 when I worked as a personal trainer right out of college. I got a tiny taste of what the fitness scene was like, wasn’t sure if I bought into it, and left to pursue my career in education. I spent a few years as a Physical Education Teacher, most recently ending with Elementary School. (Which I loved!) While teaching, I was also still working part-time as an instructor and knew eventually I wanted it to be my full-time gig. A few years and many many pep talks later, I left academia to live my truth and teach all of the fitness, all of the time! I’ve spent the last few years teaching indoor cycling and bootcamp style classes while also training private clients and studying for my nutrition certification. Most recently, inspired by my own life change and the changes of my peers/mentors, I started a podcast entitled “Coming In Hot” which highlights the stories of humans who choose to live in their truth every day!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road and that’s putting it lightly! I’ve had to change many a tire along the way if you catch my drift.
Along with breaking the news to my parents that my career path was changing out of something stable to something relatively unstable, I had to cope with woes about financial stability, longevity, sustainability and also potential injury and how it would affect my career.
My advice to young women just starting your journey: be open to uncertainty. Your end goal and your mind are going to change 1 million times and that is totally OK and more importantly… NORMAL! Its okay to pursue something and find out it’s not for you. It’s okay to turn down what may seem like a great opportunity because it doesn’t feel right. IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT ANYONE THINKS. At the end of the day: trust YOUR gut. Trust YOUR decisions. You only have one life and it’s you who’s gotta live it! So, make sure it’s one you want to wake up to every day.
Please tell us about your business.
I specialize in energy and human connection. My classes and interactions are all energy based and rooted in something deeper than just physical fitness or achievable goals. What sets me apart from others is my ability to manifest energy and transfer it to others as a way to show them what they are capable of… whether that’s inside a fitness class or not.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I think women are particularly well-positioned for whatever opportunity they’d like. Manifest destiny!
