Life and Work with Brittney Bertier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Bertier.

Brittney, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a Massachusetts native! I got my start in New England doing school musicals, community theatre, and singing the National Anthem at sporting events. Eventually, I was accepted into the Music Theatre program at The Hartt School in Connecticut, where I received my BFA. After graduation, I moved to New York City, and now split my time between the west and east coasts!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been particularly smooth, no. I now coach young artists, and I try to emphasize that while this is a talent based business, the key to longevity is simply the ability to endure. Comparison will kill you; slow and steady can win the race. The beautiful thing about acting is that you never know when your next great experience or role is just around the corner! Mental framing and keeping a positive outlook is beyond challenging, but ultimately very important.

Women especially have it rough in the entertainment field. My advice is to never do ANYTHING you don’t want to do, whatever that may be. It won’t make or break your career, I promise. At the end of the day, you need to feel you have stayed true to yourself above all else. Wait it out for the meatier roles; don’t jump at every opportunity to be in a film in a bathing suit with one line. You set the bar! Find a team that supports you and knows your worth. Surround yourself with people who bring you up, and invest in relationships, hobbies, and whatever makes you happy. You are enough!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Brittney Bertier – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a musical theatre and screen actress, and most recently originated the role of Norma Jeane (young Marilyn Monroe) in Marilyn! The New Musical at The Paris in Las Vegas. I have appeared on Netflix’s Atypical and on Jane the Virgin, and co-produce my own web series TranspLAnts! I am particularly proud of our little web series because we have worked so hard on it – we were accepted into LA Web Fest this past spring and I was nominated for Best Comedic Actress which was really exciting! Season Two will be released later this fall, and we have the opportunity to collaborate with a few online viewing platforms that we are really excited about!

I also coach young performing artists, specializing in high school students looking to audition for college programs. I never would have found my school if it wasn’t for my coach, and I love helping others find their creative path!

Who have you been inspired by?
My grandmother, Elizabeth (Betty) Bertier is my inspiration. She is the strongest woman I know; she isn’t afraid to speak her mind, she has a wonderful sense of humor, and gives great advice. When I was fifteen and more interested in boys than school, my parents couldn’t get me to focus on academics to save their lives. One talk from Betty, and I was doing my homework. There is something about her that commands respect. She is my cheerleader, and also the one to kick me in the butt when I am being negative or hard on myself. We talk every day. I love her.

My mother’s kindness inspires me to live a life of love, and my cousin Karen has an amazing balance between her family and her self-made business that I admire to emulate one day. I’m very family oriented, as you can tell!
