Life and Work with Alexis Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Jones.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alexis. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all started as a garden for my mother on mothers day. I had gone to a few local nurseries and picked up some items to start her garden. My daughters and I worked for hours turning over soil planting tomatoes, basil, lavender, mint and an array of other herbs. My desire to start a garden had always been a part of me because it’s something that my father always took pride when I was younger. I wanted to pass on those skills to my daughters, but also create something that was a great gift of health and wellness for my mother.

I’ve always enjoyed working with my hand being creative making Christmas gifts from people out of popsicle sticks, beads, yarn, anything I could get my hands on.

Creating for me has never been traditional, mostly impractical. I was a way of challenging myself while enjoying making art. And over time, I realized the art that I really enjoyed making came in the form of culinary arts.

I was fortunate over the years to take my culinary degree And put it to use in many of the jobs that I had this pod definitely allows me to be artistic and somewhat impractical while enjoying myself.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being an entrepreneur is a difficult job. I definitely encountered roadblocks when creating the TheTéspa. It takes perseverance and drives to continue, even when you don’t want to keep going; do it you never know whos watching, learning and admiring you. I’ve wanted to quit several times, but I’m very stubborn and I believe in my vision. A lot of times, you wanna take the advice of others, when you really need to take your own advice, this is a very difficult thing to do. I’m really good at giving others advice, I feel like I have a special knack for problem-solving, I had to start using all of those skills in advising for myself.

I’m also a full-time single mom and I have a full-time job. Being able to balance those things means incorporating my children into my vision, taking them to popups, allowing them to help me make products.

Never feel like it’s too late, never feel like you’re asking for too much, but never feel like it’s not going to work, take your time. Do your research and don’t worry about what other people are doing.

You really have to have fun with yourself. You really have to have fun with the mistakes that you make and you also need to make sure that you’re surrounded by people that not only are going to encourage you but learn with you. The most awesome group of people that continue to push me are also under-preneurs and many of them are not in the same field that I am in, however, their work ethic, their passion in their creativity is what continues to help me keep going. I love my family of entrepreneurs.

Please tell us about TheTéSpa.
I really love the TheTéspa. It amazes me as a self-professed perfectionist that I came up with something that I enjoy. TheTéspa is known for tea but also it’s tea based beauty products. The teas that I have created for the TheTéspa are my own personal blends that have been researched to optimize taste as well as personal wellness.

I have a background in culinary arts, and when I was younger, I wanted to cook for Oprah. Cooking for open never happened, however, I really enjoy experimenting with food and creating masterpieces with food. T is so cool to me because it’s more than just flowers input in water. There’s a lot of history with T and how it came about and I try to make sure that I educate my consumers about my product.

What makes me continuously excited about the TheTespa is that there’s no other product out there like T’s fault. I definitely try to make sure that I express how they are all natural products and you should be able to utilize these products in multiple diverse ways that is something that Thetespa offers.

Even when I’m in the supermarket, I try to educate myself on tea. And when I’m in the grocery store and I see that there are multiple different kinds of tea, it is also a reminder that T spot is very different from what I see on the shelves. TheTeSpa has not only natural teas but T based beauty products that are all natural. These products are created to complement each other and that is not something that you will find in your grocery store or in your nearest beauty aisle.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I don’t think there was one specific in my childhood that propelled me to where I am today. But I vividly remember watching and enjoying a movie called Daughters of the Dust (Director Julie Dash). This movie was amazing to me, the cinematography, all of the black and brown faces of the women, the way they spoke to each other, how they utilized what they had for, what they needed really inspired me, to not be selfish, to be more loving, and to value traditions. These are things that I carry with myself today as an adult.

I also believe I gravitated towards this move because of the traditions that women held. There were specific traditions in my family mostly holiday that was celebrated, however, I don’t know much about my ancestors and traditions are very important to me as well as bonding with nature. Bonding with myself, bonding with my daughters and having fun in my community.
