Conversations with the Inspiring Tiffany Federico

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Federico.

Tiffany, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was young, I grew up in a salon environment. I always had a love for it. I used to go to work with my mom sometimes and just sit and watch everyone in aww. I was completely fascinated. When I was about 14, a friend of mine had her birthday at her aunt’s spa. As soon as I stepped foot in there, I was in love. I always said I wanted to own a business like that one day.

After college, I attended skincare school at AVEDA where I received my full specialist license. Between having a tough time growing up with bad skin, and a passion for helping others, I started my journey as an aesthetician. I spent 13 years in Florida working in spa’s, free-lancing as a makeup artist, and eventually opening “Brighteyes Aesthetics”. I was a one-man show in Florida but always wanted more.

When I moved back to Massachusetts in 2016, I got re-licensed and re-branded my business to Brighteyes Beauty Bar.

I opened my brick and mortar in July of 2017. One year later, I have a full staff and have expanded my location from one room to 5.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road for me. Lot’s of obstacles, actually. I chose to open up my beauty bar in a really cool old Mill building in Worcester. With that, came issues with inspections due to certain things needing to be brought up to code, etc., but over the past few months, it was all taken care of.

There was also an issue with someone putting in a false report about my business to the state board the week that I had received my keys to my new, beautiful space. In my 13 years of working in Florida, I never once had an issue. I’m very by the book and take pride in owning a business that has integrity behind it. The fact that someone that I (to this day) have never even met, put the effort into trying to ruin my business is mind-blowing to me.

Advice I can give to a young woman starting their journey… support each other. I have many amazing friends and acquaintances in this industry that could technically be looked at as competition. Instead, I choose to network with them, send them business, offer business advice, and vice versa. We are all in this together. There is enough business to go around for everyone to be successful. Focus on yourself, your own growth and never give up.

What should we know about Brighteyes Beauty Bar? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Brighteyes Beauty Bar started out as solely bridal makeup. Now, we are a team of licensed aestheticians and stylists that specialize in all things beauty. Makeup, lash extensions, lash lifts, skincare, waxing, spray tans and hair.

We provide on location services for our brides, fitness competitors, and anyone hosting events. We also have our brick and mortar in Worcester that offers in-house aesthetic services. I like to consider ourselves a one-stop shop for our clients.

Something that people don’t realize about us, is that we also offer calligraphy, custom gifts, and other event services.

What sets us apart is being able to customize our services to what each client is looking for. We have your end vision in mind when we work with you. We really take the time to consult and make you feel comfortable and happy with your service.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I don’t feel that I have any barriers because I am a female per se. I see many amazing local female leaders out there that I look up to, and feel that we can concur anything we put our mind to.

I feel as a business owner, in general, there are barriers, but that comes with any business, male or female owned. It’s par for the course. I just stay focused on the end goal and don’t let anything deter me from that. If my plan A doesn’t work out, I move on to plan B. It’s all a process, and we all learn as we go. Whether you’re going through rough patches or things are going smooth, take it all in and enjoy the journey.
