Conversations with the Inspiring Samantha Brotman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Brotman.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey start in July of 2015 during my junior year at Rhode Island College. I was working towards obtaining my Bachelor’s degree in business marketing, and started to look for a job involved in sales. After searching online, I applied for a flex position with Macy’s as a cosmetics consultant. In less than three months, I had moved up to a permanent position with Clinique which is when I first developed a love for cosmetics. A year later, I was trained and certified, and then decided to branch out and start my own business. I have been able to expand my business and have grown my clientele base to amazing heights.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting anything can have its challenges, but ultimately it has been very smooth. Operating my own business allowed me to set my own schedule so I could finish my degree in a timely manner. With patience and dedication, everything from the start of my business to where I am presently has fallen into place. When you really love doing something, others can tell, and it captivates them. My father always told me if you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life. My advice to other young women would be to just go for it and don’t let anyone else tell you that you can’t do something. There are and always will be small bumps in the road, but there is also always a way to work through it.

What should we know about Makeup by Samantha Brotman? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My team does any type of makeup, including but not limited to, bridal, pageant, special effects, and special occasions, although our main concentrations are with wedding and pageants (traveling.) We also offer hair services for our clients, if desired. This past year we were the official hair and makeup team for the Miss Rhode Island USA and North America pageants, and are proud to announce that we will be returning next year as well. As a service provider, we treat every client like family and ensure that we are in contact with existing or potential clients in a very timely manner, which has helped us to build a level of trust with our clients that is unparalleled. We take pride in our work and love the feeling of seeing a bride smile after we have helped her get ready on her wedding day.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My Mother has been my biggest inspiration. She has always worked hard to give my brothers and I the best of everything, and has done so being self-employed. My parents together own two businesses as well as real estate, and seeing their success has played a huge role in driving me towards my personal success. Another very important little girl in my life is my four year old daughter, Madalyn. She inspires me to work hard every single day.
