Conversations with the Inspiring Nikki Alliegro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Alliegro.

Nikki, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve lived in Boston for about 10 years, but I grew up in New Orleans. Growing up, I was always very involved in sports and athletics. I originally got my degree to become a sports reporter, ended up working for Disney, and through the years worked towards my goals in the modeling industry as well. Three years ago, I dove into the world of competing in fitness shows for the WBFF and got certified as a personal trainer to educate myself throughout the process. From there, I owned a gym, began training clients and fell in love with every aspect of the fitness industry! Today I work independently as a personal trainer, competition prep coach, author and am a published fitness model; I absolutely love what I do and can’t wait to see how many lives I can change for the better!

Has it been a smooth road?
My life has never been a smooth road. I have an amazing family and support system that has gotten me through the toughest times in my life. I always share when I can in hopes it will help and inspire someone else out there. When I was 18, I was raped and have since had to teach myself how to work around my PTSD. A year later, Hurricane Katrina destroyed the home I grew up in, leaving us homeless and put a hold on my college education. Since then, I have been through an extremely difficult divorce that challenged me in every way to not lose myself as a person. In every circumstance, I could have easily given up not just on my dreams but on a life altogether; I have managed to have the strength to get to where I am today because I have not once lost faith. There is a reason for everything and the hard times are what really define us. My advice for young women is to never lose sight of your blessings and know that positivity means everything. Be thankful every day and keep fighting for what you want because the best is always yet to come. A quote I live by is “All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” (Walt Disney) and every challenge I face I think about that.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into your business story. Tell us more about the business.
I absolutely love helping others achieve their goals and be happy with themselves. I am a personal trainer and coach, so I have the opportunity to spend my days helping people become healthy, strong and happy. My favorite part of training someone is strength training. Seeing my clients build strength and confidence is an amazing feeling. I think my personality sets me apart from everyone. I love what I do and it shows every time I’m working with one of my clients. I want the best for them.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I think the opportunity is everywhere; you just have to know what you want and work for it. Put in the time, educate yourself and put yourself out there in the world and you’ll do amazing things.
