Today we’d like to introduce you to Miatai Davis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Miatai. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Everyone calls me Mia for short, I’m 27 years old and I’m a mommy my daughter is 8 years old, I was born and raised in Boston, I’m definitely a City girl. I have a passion for makeup and law which is a weird combination but hey I am a weirdo, LOL. My passion for the beauty industry started at the age of 13 when I watching America’s Top Model. I said to myself, wow I wish I knew how to do hair and makeup. Wow, those girls are so beautiful and Tyra Banks is so flawless and gorgeous. And that’s how my love for makeup all started, LOL. Fast forward years later, I begin to watch YouTube tutorials on how to apply my makeup. From there, I applied to Cosmetology school and two years later, I became a licensed cosmologist. I always had a love for fashion I love clothes, shoes and handbags. I absolutely love shopping online from overseas because I hate how everyone shops at the same store and they all look alike. Because I’m so used to everyone asking me Mia where did you get that from? I created my own fashion blog. I recreate celebrity looks on a very very friendly budget. I am also a YouTuber as well and I do makeup reviews and tutorials. Now, that I talked about my passion for love and makeup lets now talk about my passion for law. I’m the Vice President of the Charlestown Resident Alliance which is a non-profit organization in Charlestown. We are a tenant group organization that represents and advocates for low-income residents. We work with a group of Housing lawyers from Greater Legal Services of Boston that are amazing. My mentors, Jay Rose and Lauren Song who are Housing Lawyers convinced me that I have what it takes to be a lawyer. I’m now at Northeastern studying Political Science for my BS. My goal is to be like a Lilly Ghalichi to be a lawyer and have my own beauty line.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has been a challenge thus far I’m a survivor of domestic violence and I’ve overcome homelessness. I struggled with cyberbullying and internet trolls on social media all the time. My advice is never let anyone stop you from doing what you want to do. It’s never too late to achieve your goals. No one can stop you only you. Remember Haters are just Haters they hate because they wanna be you.
what should we know about Naturally Miatai? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I have a boring 9 to 5 job, LOL! that pays the bills, I’m a part-time hairstylist, beauty Influencer, YouTuber and blogger. What makes me different I would say is my personality. I’m authentic and real as it comes. I am goofy and a clown by heart but I know when to be serious.
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Of course, I love social media apps like FB, Twitter, Youtube, IG and Snap. But I use apps like Credit Karma Mobile banking and Acorn to monitor my credit and spending budget. My favorite shopping apps are Groupon, Pinterest, Poshmark, Aliexpress, Ebay, Mercari, Tradesy, Amazon, HauteLook, Ebates and Depop.
My favorite podcasts at the moment are The Read and Brilliant Idiots.
My favorite book at the moment is Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It by Charlamagne Tha God it’s a really great book.
I like fashion and beauty blogs such as Carli Bybel and gossip blogs such as the Shade Room and B. Scott. Carli Bybel is someone who I look up to.
