Conversations with the Inspiring Marissa D’Angelo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa D’Angelo.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Studying fashion in college lead me down a road of creative opportunities. I’ve styled window displays for Chanel + Louis Vuitton, organized farmers markets + food truck festivals and I’m currently managing events for the exclusive caterer of the Peabody Essex Museum, Artists for Humanity Epicenter and Boston Symphony Orchestra (among dozens of other renowned venues). Throughout every internship or job I’ve held, I’ve also managed their social media accounts – while freelancing for others too! Creating content, styling photo shoots, and increasing follower ratios through user engagement has been my side hustle ever since my “Boston blogger” days. It’s my passion to capture the beauty that is created in real life and translate that online in an Instagram gallery. I haven’t found a category that I can’t tackle either. From real estate developments, agents and city neighborhoods to hair salons, personal trainers, and caterers – there’s no limit to who I’ll manage for! My personal ‘gram (@dangellama) will always be my first baby though. It’s where I test out all the newest Instagram updates, editor apps and it’s also the place I can truly showcase my own aesthetic. And that’s where the Boston Voyager found me!

Has it been a smooth road?
Making money in creative industries is difficult, especially when you’re just starting out. My advice to young women who are talented and passionate about making a career out of fashion, art, event coordinating or social media – or really anything for that matter – is to keep working hard in the area where you most want to take off… while also having a second job! Be advised to never let your side job get in the way of your goals. Eventually, you can leave job #2 because you’ve built up a reputation of your own in the area you’ve always wanted to make a full-time career out of.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into your business story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a freelancer, specializing in developing a business’s brand identity through social media. With that, I work with photographers or capture content myself, post with intention/strategy and do 100% of the copywriting. What sets me apart from competitors (besides the fact that my price is substantially lower) is that I’ve acted as “the voice” for multiple companies throughout a diverse range of industries, my skills are constantly evolving and creativity will always be my driving force.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Network!… and while you’re at it don’t be afraid to talk about your strengths! A little bragging won’t hurt if you can deliver. 9/10 opportunities have come my way just because I’ve talked to someone about my passions, talents, and goals. It really is all about who you know!
