Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylee Karcher.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kaylee. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m 22 years old, and I’m the girl next door who’s shining light on clean beauty + accessible wellness + affordable fashion for the everyday woman via my blog www.ObsessedwithEverything.com!
After graduating high school, I went to the University of Massachusetts Amherst for one year as a communications major before I realized my true passion in life was in the cosmetology field (I always had a passion for hair + makeup, but never thought I would actually make it my future!). I made the decision to stop going to Umass and start attending cosmetology school in the next school year. When I arrived at my first day of cosmetology school, the school told me that although I was already enrolled and set to start, that they would be closing their doors for good within the next couple months and that I would not be able to start school!
I was completely shocked by the news and with no other great cosmetology school options in my area, I started my beauty blog + enrolled in an online Makeup Artist course through QC Makeup Academy where I learned the ins and outs of being a full-time Makeup Artist! I learned so much, but the most groundbreaking thing I learned through the MUA course is that great skin = great makeup! Makeup isn’t a quick “fix” for bad skin which seems obvious, but specifically, in American culture, most women turn to makeup to cover blemishes, instead of doing the work to actually fix their skin.
I became obsessed with skincare, which translated to learning as much as possible about clean beauty options + the importance of fitness & the power of eating clean, whole foods to make your skin GLOW! Since then, my blog’s vibe switched from trendy beauty palette reviews to posts like “How I Cleared My Skin Naturally” and “Super Affordable Daily Health Supplements for Glowing Skin.”
Through blogging, I realized that I love writing, and I love sharing my beauty tips & hacks with other women! It’s become my mission to help the women who read my blog realize that they are beautiful and that glowing skin, wellness, and a brighter, happier life are accessible to everyone, no matter your location, financial situation, or age!
I’m #ObsessedwithEverything.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As I previously touched on, my road wasn’t smooth at all!
After dropping out of college and then having my cosmetology school plans fall through, I struggled for a while with thoughts that I wasn’t as good as other people because I wasn’t going to college when everyone else around me was.
For a while, my plan was to find a new cosmetology school once I moved to a new location that had more options to choose from so that I could officially become a hair stylist, but I realized that as much as I love hair + makeup, I don’t want to do it all day every day. I realized that blogging is my passion because I genuinely love trying out new products and methods, and I love sharing my experiences with other people! I love the creative aspects of blogging, I love the writing, the branding, the networking, and social media marketing!
I always loved reading blogs growing up, but I never thought I would actually be a blogger! I’m a strong believer that everything happens for a reason, and I truly believe that my rocky school journey has to lead me to this career, and now I couldn’t be happier about the obstacles because they are what got me where I am now!
My biggest piece of advice (especially to young women) is to not always do what everyone else is doing! If something doesn’t feel right, stop doing it. You will be your happiest & best self if you pursue YOUR dreams, not everyone else’s!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a beauty + wellness + fashion blogger. There are a ton of girls in the blogging industry who blog about the same topics, but I think my budget + conversational writing tone gives me a “girl next door” vibe. I try to be as relatable as possible on my social media, which I think is what helps set me apart from the crowd!
Everything I do is on a 22-year-old waitress budget, and I only blog about products that I truly LOVE or am “obsessed” with because I want my blog to center around positivity, and I want to highlight products that have changed my life for the best and will probably change yours too, which is why my blog is called #ObsessedWithEverything!
I want my blog to be a place for girls who are looking for easy to understand beauty advice + wellness guidance + affordable fashion tips! I want everything on my blog to be accessible to everyone! I want to help girls live their best life, and I am most proud of that aspect of my blog/brand!
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I think women today have a very bright future ahead of us. It’s becoming painfully clear that there are not enough women leaders, and that there needs to be more because we have a lot of valuable information and skills to add to the world. I think women are particularly well positioned for anything at this point and I’m super excited about it!
