Conversations with the Inspiring Josie Marie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josie Marie.

Josie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up as a Latina girl thinking the only thing hair could be was quick rollersets and hours under dryers I would’ve never thought in a million years I’d be a hair dresser. I’d say a painter or artist somewhere traveling!!! It wasn’t until I grew up and explored that I found the perfect marriage of painting and hair, there was nothing better for me in my eyes and having my mom being completely against it I had to make sure there was a way I could change her mind and see that it was for me and there is more than your stereotypical rollerset and a lot of success in a career like this! Of course it wasn’t easy and plenty of times did I want to give up and was uninspired but my free spirited ways and going back to what got me into this in the first place kept the mission alive! Here I am 10 years later and with what I call my perfect marriage to my life I was able to travel, move out of state, work New York fashion week and be my own boss not to be mention find the best hair fam anyone can ask for!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was anything but a smooth road, sitting at my hair school graduation alone I realized I did this for me and only me so the possibilities were endless I worked 7 days a week and did what most artist do, moved to NYC with $1000 it was hard but it opened me to so many things in the field where growing up I thought there was nothing more than dryers for hours I was able to grow as an artist and person. My best advice is to remember it’s not all glitz and glam it’s hard but if it’s what you love keep going! And most important be kind, put out what you want you receive the universe and energy is real…

What should we know about your business? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in extensions, fantasy color, and the famous trending Balayage. I would say I’m best known for my blends. What I’m most proud of today is being able to say I’m a part of a team of girls that feed off each other’s creativity and support! And that’s what really sets us apart at least that’s what clients say 🙂

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Finding a mentor now is so much easier than 10 years ago with social media the options are endless and keep in mind it doesn’t always have to be in the field it’s important to be inspired and have someone to uplift you and help guide you when you’re feeling a tad bit lost. My mentor today is a woman named Patty who was a teacher to me now a coworker and friend her ambition and wise words of advice get me threw the worst of times.
