Conversations with the Inspiring Jordana Soliel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordana Soliel.

Jordana, born in 1985, to Monéca Monteiro-White and Steven Ellis, is a photographer from Boston and founder of Who Loves You Photography. JordanaSoliel’s love for capturing moments began with her “Uncle Jerry” documenting family events through snapshots. JordanaSoliel is the youngest of her mother’s two children and one of the youngest of her generation in the “Monteiro Family”. The birth of 12 nieces and nephews, 1 God-daughter, and 1 Great- Nephew presented JordanaSoliel her first opportunity to document life through photography, like her Uncle Jerry once did for her.

Her interest in capturing moments led her to take photography courses at Concord-Carlisle High School. Here, she got the wonderful opportunity to be taught and mentored by Mr. David Prifti (now deceased), a MFA Yale University School of Art and BFA Mass College of Art graduate. Mr. Prifti has seen potential in JordanaSoliel and started her off with a box painted black, a piece of copper and photo paper. This was a practice to ensure her appreciation of photography and its history. Through Mr. Prifti’s lessons, he unknowingly pushed her curiosity and talent to pursue photography.

Jordana dedicated her adolescence to the youth in the city of Boston and surrounding areas. She serviced people of the community holding job positions at The National Park Service, Youth Opportunity Boston, The Patriots Trail Girl Scout Council, and The Littleton Group Home. The experiences gained throughout her life and career exposed her to the beauty and ugly the world holds.

She travels a great amount, to expose the world to people who do not normally leave their hometowns and encourage people to want to see new environments and enjoy new experiences. Behind the camera, JordanaSoliel enjoys being able to capture moments that last forever and capture sights that people miss. JordanaSoliel is extremely conscious behind the camera provoking people to feel the beauty around them and feel a responsibility to heal the despair that is caught behind her lens.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always struggles!

The struggles have been stepping outside of my comfort zone, and truly interacting with people on levels that can be more personal than ever, more important than ever!

How can I not be a nervous mess when I am about to photograph someone’s wedding day?? (Oh my god!) In these moments, I remind myself of my love of what I do, that someone trusted me, to capture a day so important. For that, I am grateful.

My advice to the young ladies:

Do what your heart desires. If your heart is in it, you will always be happy!
Every day won’t be a great day, that doesn’t mean anything is over.
Let the sun warm your skin, be your light and encourage your soul.
You are your greatest Fan!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Who Loves You Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I believe what sets me apart from others would be that I truly capture moments.
I am not that photographer that will edit “you”, into a different person.

I am that photographer that will truly remind you of the special moments you shared with the people you love through photos. Each photograph is a true expression of that person, event, or moment.

I am most proud of my growth. I look back at photographs from 6 years ago and I am shocked at the difference! I am proud of my service to my clients, each of my client’s know they are very special to me.

I’d say I am known for candids, and landscape photography.
I’d rather capture people in conversation, or action. To show them; what I see, and want to share with the world.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Follow your heart and interest.

Your heart will bring you where you need to go. Go places you think you’d never go and do things you thought you’d never do.

You will meet the most extraordinary people, who will teach you the most extraordinary things!
