Conversations with the Inspiring Cindia Norton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindia Norton.

Cindia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began teaching exercise classes during my freshman year of college. It kept me in shape and helped with finances. My group exercise experience led me to Pilates training in 1999. Soon after, I started practicing yoga. Yoga practice not only changes your body but it changes your mind. My once active and sometimes frazzled mind became clearer. I was able to slow down and focus my energy on what’s most important. My four boys and my husband are the most important. I am also a full-time school teacher. I was truly busy but when they say you can make time for the things you love, they speak the truth. Yoga helped me (along with family and friends and a supportive husband) focus my energy, so that I was able to raise my boys, work full time and open studio143.

It is a delicate balance and a lot of work but I don’t want to give up what I love family, teaching and teaching yoga.

In 2014, Studio143 opened its doors and we have been going strong ever since.

People say that our studio has an awesome vibe when they walk in. I truly believe with all my heart that that is my mom’s amazing spirit. She passed away the same week the studio opened from ovarian cancer. I believe her beautiful kind spirit is there to greet people every day. It is truly my happy place.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I definitely struggled with to raise a family running a studio and teaching second grade. At times I felt like it was all too much but with the support of family and friends and a clear vision in mind I was able to balance all three. Make time for the things that you truly love in your life and everything will fall into place.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Studio143 story. Tell us more about the business.
I feel that our studio provides a beautiful space for people to practice many different kinds of yoga, meet new people, heal, and connect.

We also offer many children’s yoga classes, mommy and me, prenatal, aerial yoga, barre, pilates, and Zumba.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My mother and grandmothers have inspired me to be a caring compassionate person. My love for all beings comes from them.

Both of my grandmothers were very strong women and faced many challenges. They were always caring and giving to others even during difficult times.

My mother in law has practiced yoga for over 30 years. She was one of the first Yoga teachers in the area. She ran the Cohasset Yoga Center for over 20 years. She has been an inspiration and an invaluable resource for me.
