Check out Steve Hare’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Hare.

Steve, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve worked in the Sporting Goods Industry for the past 20 plus years. It took me a while to find this path but I am certain that this journey aligns with my purpose. I’ll be 50 years old on November 29th of this year. I picked up my first paintbrush three years ago.

I have always loved art but never slowed down long enough to pursue my passion. This is my happy place. Whether I’m standing over a blank canvas or listening to what the canvas needs next, all things past and future disappear as I work in the present. My wife has played a huge role in this as she made the final push and I am grateful. Since then, I have had many mentors along the way. I lost my father in 2012 who I used to draw with frequently as a child. I truly believe that he had a part in this and he’s with me during every piece that I create.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am primarily a non-representational abstract artist. With that said, I have had the opportunity to work across several different methods and mediums. My medium of choice would be acrylics. I like to paint on canvas but have also worked with wood panels as well. I do not use traditional brushes when working in the abstract. The tool of choice would be drywall taping knives. Each abstract painting becomes a collection of layers, each layer taking and/or leaving paint where it wants to. I truly enjoy the process. It’s somewhat like playing chess with yourself and when the canvas tells me the last layer has been applied… check mate.

I am often asked what or where my inspiration comes from. It never comes from just one thing as I pull from everything. Art speaks a visual and emotional language of its own and an International one at that. There are those that love and appreciate art from a very early age and then there are those that learn to love and appreciate art at a later age. Emotions have color and I believe that a piece of art can represent many different things to the same person at different times. People familiar with my work can see this. I look forward to and I am very grateful for the opportunity to share this unique level of communication with new collectors for many years to come. I try to do every little bit that I can with each piece to contribute to this effort respectively. I want to inspire people to stop, pause, think about that “one thing” that they’ve always wanted to do… and do. That’s my why.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
Great question and ironically, it may be a challenge that’s been here all along: Finding a visual way to connect and speak to others through your work. Whether you’ve had formal art education, local art education or yourself taught, you still have to successfully communicate through your work. A collector does not choose a piece of art, the piece of art chooses them.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
People can follow my work on Instagram @sharefineart which has been an incredible platform for sharing who I am as a person and as an artist. I am currently represented by Gallery 104 in New York (SoHo), both in gallery and online. I am also currently listed on 1stDibs under their abstract artists.

I am also fortunate enough to be the artist for the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame which represents the Jim Thorpe award and the Warren Spahn award annually. My art has most recently met fashion. Recent collaborations with designer Armondo Cruz Ortiz that can be seen on my Instagram feed.
