Check out Sally Dean’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sally Dean.

Sally, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I come from a long line of artists and musicians. My grandmother was a fashion illustrator, and in her later years painted on furniture. I remember being in her antique home attic studio in Norwell and loving the smell and being fascinated by all her materials. I was hooked! Since childhood I have felt happiest when I was making things. I was encouraged to attend art school, and graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and Tufts University in 1981. Exploring many mediums and styles keeps me excited and happy.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I paint in acrylics, watercolors and oils. I also make mosaics and work with clay. I love color, and all things whimsical. I do something creative every day, and have a wonderful little studio in my back yard where I spend many happy hours.

The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
I have a part time job as Education Coordinator.at the Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, MA. It allows me some financial support so I can follow my muse when it comes to my art. I love my job at the Museum and it keeps me in touch with the art world and also enjoy working with my colleagues. I also teach mosaics at Summer Arts at Derby Academy in Hingham every July. I still manage to work on my art in the mornings and after work.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I show my work at Local Pottery in Norwell Ma, and am a member of the North River Arts Society in Marshfield and I am a gallery artist at South Shore Art Center in Cohassett. I am on Instagram @sallydeanart and sallydeandesigns on Facebook. I also have a blog, sallydean365flowers.blogspot.com.
